View Full Version : [Debate] Should the Three Snails Skill Have Magic Attack?

As many of you know, the three snails skill is a beginner skill.
Level 1 using green snails and deals 10 damage.
Level 2 is blue and 20.
Level 3 is red and 40.

Warrior-to-be beginners don't need this as they have high str.
Archer-to-be have dex that help attack.
Thief-to-be need 25 dex to advance, and that helps them enough.
Magicians-to-be have nothing.

Since Magicians beginners rely on INT, wouldn't it make sense to add a LITTLE ma to the three snails attack?
Green shells would do 10, then 12, then 14, etc.
Same goes for the others.

There are many nice quests in maple island now, due to the changes it has gone through the recent patches, but it's still hell for magician beginners.

What do you guys think?

I think its pretty fair. Considering that after Maple Island Mages level the faster up to 30 and magicians-to-be leave Maple Island 2 levels earlier.

Just doing some of the quests will help you a lot on the island.

It would be nice if it had a little more atk.

Off Topic : It would be better if the skill didn't use mp.

The MP has been reduced largely (in terms of beginners).
You constantly spam it, and still have mp leftover.
The main problem is gathering the shells, which magicians have a hard time killing the snails in the first place.

Giving it Magic attack would be rather pointless.

No one uses it after they advance, and Maple Island is ridiculously easy to get off of now.

Oh I have never notice the mp has been reduced
And you are right about gathering the shells with a magician.
Might get lucky and find an islander and ask for some shells xD
Grim is right though you never use the shells after you job advance
but Mages have a pretty hard time at maple island so giving the skill
more matk will help out more and make things a bit faster.

Not to mention, the only real monsters mages could kill is green snails (and probably blue).

However, I'm saying this in right now in terms to a new server coming out.
When it comes out, everyone will be ksing each other.
Mages are left in the dust while everyone else grinds away in front of them.

Killing a blue snail takes long enough...
Sure, leveling is MUCH easier in maple island now, but to level faster you must:
A) Kill monsters
B) Do quests that require you to kill more than just green snails.

My favorite quests are all of Mia's Training quests as well as Bari's.
Mia's starts with killing 5 stumps and getting 3 branches (lol 1 damages).
Next is 5 red snails (lol 1 - 2 damages).
Then 3 slime and 1 squishy (a squishy liquid took me 7 slimes <_<) (and mages ALWAYS do 1's to slimes)
Then 2 pigs (lol....1's)
Then an orange mushroom (1's and 90hp? fun to solo huh )

So yea, quests are great, but it's....hard when you can't really attack.

Well if you plan on making it far in Yellonde(Or another new
server)and if you are a mage it would blow out everyone later on.

Magic attack? Naw. It's a useless skill since they removed it's 100% accuracy
The need for ammo makes it a poor option for magician-to-be's

Here's another option, targeted at pre-mages.

Soul shells: Uses 150 *or some very high amount* mp. The character can use the three shells attack without usage of shells for 30 seconds.
Level 2 will be 1 minute.
Level 3 will be 90 seconds.

It can be used to show off your leet beginner skills.
Also, perm-beginners could have this useful option to help them level.

Sounds good to me.

Considering that mages are the only ones with mastery in first job (with magic claw and whatnot) I think it evens out. Sure their first 15 odd levels are hard work but from 15-30, they have it easier than everyone else.

All classes have their pros and cons and I see the mage's "weakness" early on as no exception to that statement.

As warriors and everyone else steam past them in victoria island, the mages just have to be more crafty and find places that no one is training at to kill their snails in peace xP

I don't really see the point to this. I've made a few mages there, and the longest to level 8 couldn't have even been 1 hour. Just do some quests such as the quiz, and cash shop one. Unlimited shells, or whatever other bonuses added wouldn't be needed. As mentioned mages get the faster training later on in 1st job. It all evens out in the end, so no need to change anything~

This is sorta useless. Maple Island is sooo easy as it is, and any loss mages would have is made up 15-30. =D

Yeah, I remember the day when Maple Island had two quests (after exiting anyways): The one that gave you the dagger and the one that gave you the hat. I remember getting pissed cause I got some ugly yellow headband instead of a black one and getting that razor instead of the fruit knife (cause it had more attack!) D;

The most easy Maple Island is the jMS one, i just wasted about 20 minutes to take to level 10. The EXP in jMS' Maple Island is insane. I think the Magicians aren't that difficult, because they just gotta make it to Level 7 and get 200 EXP, do the Quest in Lith Harbor that gives out 300 EXP, Bam. You're a Magician.

The fact is, that the Magician's harder part is that you can kill just Snails, and Blue Snails. You always do "1 Damage". That sucks, but anyway, getting to Level 7 it just takes 1 hour.

To be honest with all the quests now on maple island magicians to be wouldn't need the snail shell skill to add magic attack, although it would speed things up. I like the idea as well. It will become like every other mage skill, made useless as you go into the next job advancement.

I must say, while it was a pain getting my mage off the island was a pain, I did it with the original quests and just plain grinding and it wasn't death to me. I don't think we need previously stated modifications. o--o
