View Full Version : Some Post-Big Bang DrK questions

In the post big bang aftermath we see a few new things with DrKs.
The ones I'am focusing on is the removal of PA/Spear specific skills, and that the penalty for stabbing/swinging (respectively) has been removed.
Since the penalty for stabbing with a PA or swinging with a Spear has been removed, has the damage bonus for swinging with a PA or stabbing with a spear been removed as well?
For an example;
Under the new system, you will not be punished for Fury'ing with a spear, or Crushering with a PA.
But under the new system, will you be rewarded with bigger damage for using a Spear for crusher or PA for fury? Or has that bonus been removed?

It has been removed.
There is no bonus or penalty for stabbing or swinging.
The difference stemmed from separate damage formulas that were applied whether you were stabbing or swinging. It wasn't an actual bonus multiplier but rather a function of using whichever damage formula. After Big Bang the damage formulas are the same whether it is a stab or slash so those perceived "bonuses" or "penalties" are no longer present.

In the old system, the damage formula for a swing or stab had two multipliers. 5 and 3.5(?) respectively for a PA, and reversed for a Spear. The specific multiplier was used in both the max and minimum formula for each weapon.
Swing with a spear? Max and Min use a 3.5. Stab? Now they use 5. This is why a PA Fury(?) would never hit the bottom part of the shown damage range, or why a PA Crusher would never hit the top part.
Now, however, there is only one multiplier (1.49*4) used in the Max formula. The minimum is a direct multiplication of the max and mastery.
The only problem I have with this is how useless PAs are for DKs now.
First off, you have Arans hoarding them. Then you have the fact that every PA is slower than a spear(?). The extra 2 or so wAtk they get doesn't compensate for this. Then you have the massive supply of well scrolled spears from the 6 or so years of kMS and 4 or so of gMS where using a Spear was better than a PA.
Even if they fixed the speed issue, there's no diversity. No difference in training, no difference in skills, no... nothing. I feel like Maplestory got more bland than before, which is hard to pull off.

DrK's can now use Purple Surfboards for crusher.

I wish.
Both are too rare and coveted by Arans.
Atleast when going after skis you're only competing with one class with a dying population, plus there are a lot more well-scrolled skis due to the gacha box event a while ago. The majority of the arcglaives I see are pure 60s. Sure there will be a few converts, but I see the majority sticking with a 100/110/120 spear.

True, but now that DrKs are actually more than a nerfed Hero with HB and Arans are no longer "top of the food chain" there may be a big shift in popularity of the two classes. I would certainly prefer playing a DrK, which now has three attacks in Sacrifice, Crusher, and Fury, plus an Ultimate.

its the same exact thing
a bonus or a penalty would create unbalanced damage or something
so i am sure neither is there :/
still pure polearm 4 life.
u spear drks dont know how good the purple surfboard is =O.
it makes dps go through the roof.
and i dont think we need any events for psb. everyone should suffer for shunning them and not noticing it the day it came out. xD
I scrolled 3 of them with 30% and someone i know scrolled at least 7.

->Implying that we ever had a big enough supply of them to begin with to take notice of. But not sure how much a PSB would help Fury come close to Crusher on 1v1...
And you haven't been paying attention to many threads lately, have you? We realize it now that it actually makes a difference.

Already hoarding my Crimson Woods. Though I would much prefer a PSB event.

Don't Arcglaives need Dex? Really a downer to add Dex after a patch that eliminates all need for accuracy.

In my opinion, that will just work out better for us.
Arans as a class had the highest demand of godly scrolled PoleArms when they were released. When all the rich people made their dexless arans, they went balls to the wall either scrolling or buying awesome Polearms(just look at the amount of godly scrolled karstans that suddenly turned up over night).
With so many arans wanting godly polearms, this creates a massive "demand" market needing people to "supply" said polearms.
Even if aran popularity has calmed down to a happy place, that doesn't change the massive influx of 50% PA scrolls, white scrolls, and godly polearms that came with aran popularity. Arans still have a good chunk of represenation and new godly PA's are coming into the market oftenly.
The arans are helping us out =] They encourage people to get out there scrolling more bad ass Pole Arms for us Dark Knights to come in and scoop up :D

Lol sorry i am used to my words landing on def ears when it comes to the big dk weapon debate.
actually there was a big supply on psb in broa you guys really werent paying attention because it was a polearm. I noticed day one. i saw at least 20 gacha smegas announcing it.
fury could go 1v1 with crusher since we got berserk.
believe me crusher and psb is epic ive seen it with my own eyes in gms.

That may be the case in broa but I know in bera there were quite a few high level drks using owls daily and between 4-5 of them I've heard of 3 psbs. Unfortunately 2 of them got blown within the first few days because they figured there would be more of them coming out.
I know there's aslightly bigger supply now but it was never to the point where they were all over the place or even someone could stumble upon them in bera. I was looking since I still do like fury over crusher and would at least entertain the idea of switching to fury training.
Btw, I used to use an impaler at ToT to train (2hko no matter what I used so might as well go with a fast spear). I know how fast it is with crusher =P
