I'm trying to run maplestory in a virtual machine, which is apparently running better than when I run it straight from my computer, for some reason... It works, but a few minutes after being logged in it'll close maplestory with this message.

We are unable to connect to the login server due to a server check, a firewall block, or other network issues.
Please check the MapleStory homepage for ongoing server checks as well as your firewall settings.

1. What VM are you using?

2. Type of connection? Bridged, NAT, etc?

3. Have you configured your VM to support Direct3D?

1. Vmware workstation 6?

2. NAT

3. If it wasn't then I couldn't even play the game, so that's a bit of a dumb question isn't it?

4. No firewall to speak of, really. the firewall I do have lets things through and I was still able to connect for a good while with it so it has to be working.

5. Not really necessary to tell you. let's just say better than a whole lot of people.

1. Have you played before without getting disconnected on the VM?

2. When was the last time it's worked on the VM? Since the last Server Check?

Well, it used to work last year on an entirely different VM, but I wouln't know what caused it to happen.

Also, I haven't really done it on this particular one before. I set up TinyXP on this new one to save space and possible some performance as well. For the record, it did something like that before the recent server check as well as now.

I haven't run my VM for a long time. I'll try to get it out of the closet and started to see if mine still runs.

I'll suggest just playing in a non-VM environment until then. Odd that Maple runs better in your VM though...

Odd that Maple runs better in your VM though... Oh, it does. The freeze periods are much shorter, the game starts immediately (as far as getting to the nexon/wizet screen is concerned), and generally takes a lot less time to load normally laggy things.

Sorry for the late response, as well as the slight bump. Well, I've finally dusted off my VM, and I'm still able to run Maplestory while emulating Windows XP. I'll suggest that you get rid of TinyXP and just try the it on Windows SP2/SP3. Of course, the easiest thing would be to just run it on your regular machine.

Well, I put in plain XP and that seems to be working fine now, but at a definite space cost >.>
