well, i've done it. i've finally done it. i have officially confirmed every class and type of item from monsters can be stolen. it may sound obvious at first, but many people don't use steal to actually steal items, they use it to play around with, and now, they use it as a weak mob attack in 2nd job (however, now that i train/hunt PoTs at ToT, i almost never use BoT, and only use steal as my other mob attack), rather than to hunt for items/quest items.

anyway, two nights ago, i finally stole a monster book card from a dark wyvern. this was the one item i had suspected could not be stolen, because of it's nature: it doesn't go anywhere in your inventory, and you can't use it, you just simply pick it up and it applies, so it's very unlike an item/drop. however, i have 100% confirmed they can be swiped using steal.

then, hot on the trail of my latest discovery, last night i stole the holy grail of items, finally checking off the final, and most prized item due to their rarity--the skill book. i was hunting for PoTs (which by the way, CAN be stolen :shine:), and i was bstep/steal comboing a group of four chief oblivion gaurds in front of me, when the chief in front drops a wad of cash, the 4th guy in the back drops a red heart, and...

...assassinate 30 came tumbling out of the 2nd chief.

GLORIOUS VICTORY!

this thread isn't just for me to gloat (but i do feel very accomplished, since i single handedly confirmed all these rare items are stealable), but it's also to give you bandits hope in your class, and the skill that defines you: steal. you can get any item a monster drops, and it is an AWESOME feeling when a high level sword/wand comes tumbling out of a living monster, or a beautiful brown scroll, even if you don't know what it is, you STOLE it! stealing pieces of time from the robes of ToT monks, potions, crystal ores, throwing stars. i really have stolen it all, and i couldn't be happier.

also i'm probably the leading expert in the mechanics of steal, so if anyone has any questions, go ahead and ask away.

trust in your skills, and happy hunting!

Congratulations on your, ehh, stolen goods? This makes me hope for a full skill reset even more(revamp), because that would be the only way for me to get maxed Steal. I did manage to get some equipment and a scroll once using Lv.8 Steal, which felt really good.

I think this confirms any item can be stolen. Well, not sure about quest items, but any regular item can.

But does steal ever give you duplicate items, or is it things the mob would have dropped anyway, and as a result of theft doesn't drop?

@hurrycanex
yes, you can steal quest items, however, not all of them. nexon is really inconsistent on which quest items can be stolen, you simply have to find out on your own. x/

@stereo
steal used to give duplicate items, but that was patched a little after GMS got ludi. i see what you are getting at though, and the advantage of stealing an item increases the droprate of the rest of the items the monster can drop theoretically (by the total number of items -1). i say theoretically because i am the only person that tests this out, and so far my experiments do seem to make perfect logical sense, and i do see more items dropping after stealing. it's simple, if an item is stolen (or, removed from the list of items that can drop), the logically the droprate of the rest of the items is slightly increased because the odds of another item dropping is removed.

not to try to scrutinize you, but, is it possible to see some screenshots of this? im the skeptical kind of person and going just by words doesnt sell me. if its true that what you say has happened, thats an amazing feat.

just to clarify, we're talking about gms right?

@rhpot03, yes, in GMS

@tobaisblack
i truly wish i could, but don't have a SS or recording of it. i wish so much i was recording somehow, but no, there is no SS of it happening. stealing happens really quickly, and i wasn't thinking about anything special happening, i was just fighting a mob, and i use steal as my bstep filler now at ToT. i would lose my mind if i was constantly waiting to see a skillbook get stolen to SS it from all the waiting. you certainly don't have to believe me, but i have no reason to make this up. you can test it out yourself, i assure you skillbooks are 100% steal-able, and i encourage everyone to go out and find it out themselves, it's an awesome feeling stealing rare items. x)

Oh wow I was wondering about this! (currently lv 21 steal on my bandit)
So everytime an etc. item is stolen, that is a good thing, because it has a high chance of dropping which now disappears? Though with that logic after stealing an etc, wouldn't the droprate for say scrolls would be like 10 times as high?
Also how would a mob dropping more than one item fit in this theory? Since it's possible for mobs to drop more than 1 item, doesn't that proove that with every kill every single item in the monsters droplist drops with a certain chance? And the monster dropping a scroll after an etc. was stolen was just a coincidence and it could also just have been that the scroll was stolen instead of the etc? Or maybe steal just gets the first item on the list, so every time a monster is about to drop an etc and a scroll, the etc is always stolen and not the scroll? That would give the appearence of scrolls dropping more when etc are stolen but it aint.

Can't wait to try to farm chaos scrolls when my steal is maxed to try it out! (Like that last thing can be easily tested with doing 2x drop, which would make the etc. droprate 100% so everytime the etc. would be stolen.)
