I'm not sure if you guys can help with other things not directly related to MapleStory...but I'll give it a shot.

I just got a new HP computer to replace my 8 year old Compaq desktop. My new HP Desktop has a 750GB HD, 5GB RAM, 2.2GHz Processor, and is a quad-core (so no one can argue it's my computer being good enough :f3:). What a surprise, I'm stuck with Windows Vista. That's not my issue though. My family had bought a new HP monitor a while ago to replace our 8 year old monitor (what a surprise). It looked amazing on our XP desktop...but the fonts almost look blurry on Vista. I don't know what it is. Someone said their fonts are unstable. I have a Vista laptop and it looks fine because it's set to the highest resolution. The highest resolution on this monitor is 1440 by 900 pixels which makes everything WAY too small. I have it set on 1024 by 768 pixels which is the lesser of the available evils. I've been messing with the monitor and nothing seems to work. I googled some stuff and people just said that Vista has "Unstable" text.

Is there a way to fix it...I'd love you forever if you could </3

Thanks.

If you're messing with the monitor resolution, set it to be the same as the monitor is. For example, my 20" Widescreen monitor is 1680 x 1050 pixels. Anything else would look odd and blurry. Just look at the box where you got the Monitor and it should tell your what resolution to set it as.

if you have an LCD it'll always be like that unless you make it the native resolution of the monitor. If you want to see big and clear, get a CRT monitor...lol

How would you make it the native resolution of the monitor?

I've described that in my previous post. I just couldn't think of the word 'native resolution' so I went off on a tangent. Look at the box your monitor came in and see what the native resolution of the monitor is. Then just set your resolution to match that.

It says what it is but that's the 1440 by 900...so small...

If that's the native resolution, everything should look clear, though the icons might be a bit small. Do you think you can take a screenshot of your desktop and show us what it looks like?

If it's text in your browser you find small, then press Ctrl and + in your browser, it zooms in in the browser windows. As for anything else, I dunno. xd

even if he does a printscreen we can't see what he's seeing. The only way for us to see what he's seeing is to have him use a digital camera and take a picture of the screen.

It is pretty obvious what his problem is. I think you should make everything native resolution and increase the desktop icon sizes and such.

I used to make everything big too, but sharp/clear text made me get used to the "small" icons...they seem normal now.

But I think you are on a hi-def screen, so at native resolution the images are even smaller. lol...

i can try that for vista...I'm dual booting with XP and Vista just because Vista is pissing me off and my mom is sort of technically challenged and doesn't feel like learning the new stuff for Vista lol.

-sigh- Your monitor is too small for you and you're blaming it on Vista? It has nothing to do with Vista. I hate how the general impression of Vista being a bad OS has people blaming completely random problems on Vista.

Vista icons are supposed to be a lot larger than XP icons to accommodate larger screen resolutions. What's the size of your monitor? If it's not 17 wide, 1440x900 may be too big.

I'd suggest trying the following at least:

Go into Control Panel and search "dpi" (I don't really love Vista all that much either, but that's definitely something XP didn't have)

Click the indicated option and you'll come to this prompt.

Choose to increase the dpi setting. You're done :)

I've already tried that. My monitor is a 19" and 1440x900 is too small. When you increase DPI, it makes the images larger but it also distorts them. The text really doesn't change in web browsers either.

I spoke with an HP Technical Assistant and he said it was probably a compatibility problem between Vista and my monitor.

I appreciate your help...but I've tried everything. My only hope is to either just ditch Vista or dual boot like I was planning...however complex it is.

How do people find problems like this with Vista? I built a computer using 64-bit Vista and it works flawlessly. I bought computers for my mom and dad with 32-bit versions and they work flawlessly as well. I keep reading about how people are having the most obscure bugs and problems, yet I have not had any real problem at all.

LCD screens are built to work in one resolution. Changing it will most likely cause problems. Just because you don't like it being small is not an excuse to blame Vista. Either deal with the "small" resolution or get another monitor.

1440x900 is the perfect resolution for 19" monitors. Just get used to it.

Me and a friend use 19" monitors, and everything else looks like crap.

Don't even bother installing XP just to try to fix the resolution problem. Like many people have said, it isn't the problem with your operating system. XP won't fix it.

It's not that bad but some stuff is pretty tiny. XP worked perfectly on 1024 by 768 pixels...no clue why Vista looks crappy with it...

Xp sure has that you just need to know where it is...

It's probably going to stretch the same way either OS you get. It's because of the fact that you replaced your monitor. I suggest if you don't want to stretch your screen either shrink your monitor through the manual knob settings or go back to your old CRT or just get a smaller monitor. If you go back to XP with your new monitor you're gonna end up with the same problems. I wouldn't go through the trouble if I were you.
