Today, I shall begin reading the Discworld series.

I've heard nothing but praise for the books, and am tired of seeing references on TVTropes and learning of what is apparently a fantastic set of novels 2nd hand. There are 30-odd books in the series, and today I begin with The Color of Magic. Wish me luck.

That is rather hard to pinpoint. The books are mostly comedic mish-mashes of fantasy themes from famous fantasy authors. Like H. P. Lovecraft and Shakespeare.

I read The Color of Magic and Equal Rites for the same reasons. I was somewhat disappointed. Not nearly enough comedy for my taste in what were otherwise bland fantasy plots.

You can't go wrong with Pratchet. To all those that say its not funny, you just don't get it. Also, you will get much more out of the books if you are familiar with other fantasy titles, classical literature and history.
