Ken passed Taylor two months ago. He just got unbanned a couple days ago so I suppose that's why you hadn't noticed.

Beginners after a certain level don't really level. They just leech.

To this very day, I still do not understand the appeal of having a beginner past level 10. Maple is already boring enough as it is. I can't imagine having a character with no skills and hardly anything to equip. And if this Straat is a beginner Shidoshi hit the nail right on the head. If leech didn't exist, we wouldn't have high level beginners at all. They don't train. People train for them. Sense, it makes none.

I definately can see the point in making a perma-beginner if it was trained normally, without leeching. It's a kind of self-achievement to do something the hard way (take the hard-mode pokemon that Yotsuba posted somewhere), some people also have fun knowing they are in some way unique and that not everyone can get what they have.

ah perm beginners~~ the double-standard of maple. they can leech all the way to 200 and ppl will say congrats. any other job that leeches to 200 will get looked down and made fun of.
love it.

Uh, what? First of all, leeching is the only way a perma-beginner levels. As completely asinine and boring an idea as a perma-beginner is, it's how they gain their levels. Secondly, that's a pretty broad generalization. I know several people who have leeched, and no one treats them any different. Thirdly, leeching to 200 is rather ludicrous. At some point, leeching ceases to be an effective way to gain levels, especially post 17x. As long as I've been playing Maple, I've never known anyone who leeched "all the way to 200." Point of fact, I've never even known anyone who's known someone who has "leeched all the way to 200." There are double standards on Maple for sure, but perma-beginners aren't one of them >_>

Alyssa trains all her levels. No leech what so ever, and is currently level 101 as you can see above.

Which is great and all. I was just pointing out that saying all leechers are looked down on and scorned is a ridiculous statement. They're not double-standards, just boring as hell. >_>

yes it is a double standard. just because its "hard" to level as a beginner doesnt make them special to be leeching at higher lvls rather than training themselves. hanging on a rope is hanging on a rope, except in this case the perm beginners gets tons of GRATS ON BEING HIGH LVL while non-beginners that leech get OH THAT LEECHER.
ps~ not for or against the whole leeching thing. im just saying, its a double standard thats all ;]

Actually I'm level 102, my signature is just being a jerk and won't update.
Anyway, it really isn't hard to train a Beginner, it's just incredibly time consuming. Because of this, leechers (and even non-leechers) argue that I must have "no life" having never leeched my character and that they're somehow better because they put a few months into their character while I've been around for a few years. The most I can say is that I simply enjoy playing my character and I see no reason to leech a character that you enjoy playing.
I'll copy something I wrote in a BasilMarket thread a few days ago:
"It's not worth it to dispute whether leechers or non-leechers are better or worse because we're all playing useless characters in a game that does little to further our real lives. Personally, I think the leechers probably deserve as much respect as Keeth, Alex, Nikki, or myself because despite having to deal with the same harsh comments (or even more) from judgmental people, some of them are still keeping at it. And they obviously have better in-game friends, or more money than the rest of us otherwise they wouldn't have been able to get that far with their characters."
I say that because the few leeching Beginners that I know are fairly nice people and my favorite, Alon, is a really great guy. His honesty in admitting that his character is nothing special and that he considers it more the combined effort of all of his friends than any personal achievement helped me realize that they're not all spoiled kids hanging on a rope.
I agree that the double standard is crap and that no player really deserves more or less respect based on the way they chose to play a game. Respect is earned through setting a good example for others, being kind, being reliable, etc... But meh.. What are you going to do?
Among the Beginner community no one really cares to argue about this anymore. When the leeching boom happened a couple years ago it was non-stop drama and killed a lot of the fun of being a Beginner. Though we're nothing special, being a part of a tightly knit community is part of the appeal and the fighting got so out of hand that some pretty great people stopped playing altogether. I know there is still some bias against leechers among the non-leechers and I'll admit that I'm a bit disappointed when a friend starts leeching (whether they're jobless or not), but I just don't see the point in making a big deal of it. The most I do is try to discourage leeching among the odd Khainian population and show everyone that you can still get up there without leeching as long as you keep having fun with it.

I miss Taylor/NoobEgg. :f4:
Leeching doesn't make anyone a terrible person, least of all beginners.

Since my favorite Gwyn quit, I haven't given a second thought about Beginners, nice to know someone like Elyssa though. Way to go, girl! :chin:
As for leeching, I leech my mules -hb, hs, se, si- and friends' mules/secondary chars. Any main character should be self-trained in my opinion. Without working, you can't have anything, with appropriate amounts of work, you get extra benefits to help play better.
