View Full Version : The new R&R
The new R&R is slated for release on the 21st of this month. Here are some of the changes you can look forward to:
Note that this is a preliminary set of ideas. Any of these ideas may not be implemented in the R&R:
- Clearer rules about what is and is not allowed in the Funhouse
- Definite statement on what is and is not allowed in signatures (dimensions, total bandwidth usage)
- Addition of rules: Flooding, mult accusation, harrassement, "I'm back!"
- Better definition and more information about the pornography rule.
- Change of the banning policy to always affect people, not accounts
- Restructuring of the infractions so it's easier to tell which offenses are worth what points
- Documentation on how to appeal your infraction
- Increase of privileges for moderators and administrators from premium donor to ultra donor
- Change of the banning policy to always affect people, not accounts
So, people who get banned on one account can't return on a dummy account? What about those of whom that are already doing such things? Will they be blocked from the website?
New rules are not retroactive.

New rules are not retroactive.
none ever were.
EDIT::
damn my haste.
Gotta ask though:
- Restructuring of the infractions so it's easier to tell which offenses are worth what points
- Documentation on how to appeal your infraction
how, or rather why, do the rules need to be restructured? isnt it pretty self explanatory what is worth how much; and what kind of documentation are you saying, like past examples of how to versus how not to do so?
There will be some documentation on bad arguments people use to overturn infractions, as well as what exactly a person needs to do to appeal an infraction and possible outcomes.

Tobias, I think if we here at Southperry have learned anything over the last few weeks, it's that "simple" is often misunderstood, both willingly and unwillingly.

- Addition of rules: Flooding, mult accusation, harrassment*, "I'm back!"
Fixed your typo, and it would be nice for the new R&R to either state that Visitor Messages/Blog Comments are subject to the R&R as it currently states all posts.

We've covered that in defining the scope of the rules in reference to posts, blogs, visitor messages and PMs.
Fiel's list is just a highlights.
Please post the exact limit to what's considered too much advertising.

This may seem odd, but do Admins see the Private Messages that are sent? Or are you only able to see them if the recipient reports the message?
Mods only see PM's that are forwarded to them, or reported.
Admins see those, and an admin with database access could also troll through at the DB level to find and read your PMs if they really wanted to.
Or install a hook to send them all your PMs, or dump them all to a special forum.
But that's a lot of "could" not so much a "does/do".
Admins can - See how many PMs you have. Purge your PM inbox. Delete all PMs you've ever sent.

"I'm back!"
Does that mean I am back threads won't be allowed? Isn't that rule a little. . . retarded?

Maybe they'll only be allowed in Amherst? I only really see Amherst and the Funhouse as forums where anyone would do this. Usually such threads get ignored in the Funhouse anyway. 3 or so posts before it dies.

Okay, this bolded part just creeps me out. I can understand needed to make sure a forum is safe, but being able to sift through anyone's PMs is a gross invasion of privacy. I know it's a "Could". Just saying.

That's how a database works. It's a server. All information are stored in there, so of course, one who has access to that server, can access information. This applies in corporates too, they can look at what you're doing on your computer. Whether they are allowed to or not, I am unsure as to the legality of that. However, if you do something that is obviously against their agreement, I believe they're allowed to monitor your actions.
Database admins = access to all information
Network admins = able to see who is going in / out of network and controls flow

It's just that it brings up that Adura feeling, because lord knows HE sifts through people's PMs, whether if it involved anything he thought was badmouthing him or wut not but never for the safety of the forum; more like a Big Brother watcher.

Well, with BD gone you only have to worry about one very specific little chin being bored enough to do that since it takes a rather specific level of access no one else wants or needs.

What Khoi said.
They can look at the PMs if they want, but they don't really have reason to snoop around PMs and infract people for a conversation that's between two private parties. I trust the administration on this site would never go so far as to do something like that. It's not needed.

Can't be helped. Doubt Fiel would do this though, so you shouldn't worry too much about it.

Well that's hardly what i was expecting for my early birthday present, fiel.

SELECT * FROM pmtext WHERE text LIKE '%raisin%';
Regarding the donor marketplace, too busy doing other things. No set date on that.
EDIT: Thanks for fixing that, Eos. :)

The point is that Paul is going into people's inboxes and strangling their babies.
Just like Adura.....
:glitter:
But really, I do like the ideas set out.
I also like One Rule.
Infact I am ok with most rules.
GOOOOO FIEL!
No Flooding?! Crap....now I have to wear a tampon :(
The rules are pretty much finished. They will debut tomorrow night for viewing. The rules still won't take effect until a little later so people have time to become familiar with the rules and for the administration to answer questions you may have regarding them and possibly some last minute changes if there's anything major we missed.
