Hi there. I quit Maple in late 08 and came back recently. I am interested in Aran and also in DrK. I know enough about DrK but not how it stacks up against Aran. I know DrK is supposed to be a failure or whatever, but it is the only other polearm class. So can you guys give me a detailed comparison between the two classes? Is one better than the other? Thanks.

Well, I've never played a DrK in an official server, but I know I didn't really enjoy them in private servers. However, I do love my Aran, and if you want to use polearms then you should probably be an Aran (assuming you care about DPS). It is also pretty fun using the combo system on an Aran. It offers something new and different to MS. Sorry I can't really offer much more insight since this is all just my opinion.

Opinion: Go DrK if you want to go to bosses, go aran if you want to do damage at bosses.

DrKs are easily the most important class at end game bosses.

If you're using a polearm, arans have far superior DPS.

If you're gonna be a DrK, be hybrid, don't stick to PoleArms, otherwise, make an Aran.

Opinion: Go DrK if you want to go to bosses and support while doing damage, go aran if you want to do MOAR damage at bosses.
This is probably more like it. Dark Knight's HB simply can't be replaced by anything an Aran brings. I'd list maintaining Combo Barrier/Aegis as a plus for Arans, but I'm not too sure how badly stuns screw that up.

Well looks look at the basics:
DKs will have higher hp naturally do to hp increase skill AND Hyperbody, one of the most wanted skills for parties
Arans are forced to swing while Dks have the old 6:4 swing to stab ratio
Now 1st job:
arans get booster which is -3 and on top of that get double swing, which gives them very fast mobbing attacks.
Dks on the other hand have to stick with slash blast and power strike, which is slow and weaker in DPS than aran's double swing combos
2nd job:
Arans get triple swing to significantly boost their attacks and they get combo smash 700% to 10 mobs self explanatory, and then they get pressure and drain which means they barely use pots with monsters that are at their level
Dks finally get a booster which is only -2 and they must stick with the slash blast and power strike, what truly shines in this job advancement is hyperbody giving Dk's the highest natural hp
3rd job:
Arans get a Crit,smart knockback and snow charge which gives em a big edge to easily mob monsters
Dks get pole arm fury which is a forced swing and their strongest attack
4th job:
Arans easily mob now with their new Overswing and other skills
Dks get berserk which means at a lower hp they can due wayy more damage
Conclusion:
Aran is wins hands down in training speeds and quite possibly DPS, but Dks are generally better bosses because they will always be wanted for HB and arans have wayy lower hp. Do not fall for the BS about arans lose their combos at bosses therefore they are crap.... its not true, its just like the corsairs and their battleships....

Both jobs have their pros and cons
DK:
pros
* High hp
* Good support/atack class
* Good damage
* Big damage when using berserk
cons
*Not so usefull when using a pole-arm
*Boss runs, hardly need more than 2
Arans:
pros
* Very good DPS
* Versatile class
* The combo sistem makes the class less boring to play
cons
* Mid hp
* Must know how to control it or you will die easily
So, each class has good and bad things, just choose what you want, and what you think you will have fun with

I have both a drk and aran...
I find the Aran's skills flashier and are stronger.
DrKs who are very high level with a good polearm can 1hit/2hit skeles tend to train pretty fast.
But getting to level 70ish...I say both are equally good/fun. Though aran's have new moves, so if you've played another warrior before, you might find a drk boring getting to 70.

DrKs only really have decent damage with Berserk... without it they're doing less than half as much damage as a Hero, which I think makes them the least powerful 4th job at single targets.

I think it's funny how dark knights need control to do decent damage and not die, while a hero only has to mash one button.
Talk about balancing.
