View Full Version : Who or what inspired you to play your class?

As in, your favorite or strongest character (main). Back during the pre-4th job era, probably when Amoria first came out. There was a Hermit by the name of Riptor. He was my bestfriend on Scania. Of course, he eventually quit because people said his damage sucked, and he had complications with his girlfriend. We still talk, but only on MSN these days.
Then there was Suuushi. Suuushi was a huge inspiration to me. I saw the character hanging out at FM on multiple occasions, and after the Suuushi-hacking crap, I think somewhere along that time, I made a female-Sin just for fun. It was for fun, like I said. Never did I realize it would become a Hermit, and eventually advance to a Night Lord. -shrug-

Lukavi, he was a 5x Page when I was low 3x and he offered to loan me a well scrolled Titans (something like 71 atk) if I got to level 40. He also helped me find a clean Golden Mole and scrolls for it.

My first character ever was a cleric (back on BETA and when I started on Windia as well). My inspiration was, after reading a little on each class, that cleric was the only class able to heal (which was awesome coming from other RPG's mentality)
My F/P was made because I felt that my priest couldn't really hold his own when not partied and I wanted to be able to deal single target damage and solo.
My inspiration for my hermit was my friends that were always flash jumping around and showing off.
When pirates came out, my main inspiration was just to use a gun. After I caught a glimpse of the massive damage they could do about 6 months after their release, that was part of my inspiration. Now its all the high leveled Corsiars of Bellocan and SP that inspire me to keep going
I wanted to be a White Knight, becasue everyone was a Sader or a DK. And so I made one.
As for picking a Warrior in the first place, the race between Tiger and Fangblade did that.

I picked a mage because I liked magical happenings. I picked an FP because poison sounded AWESOME. Motivation then was EluNirvelli. Then I realized my stats sucked. I made a hermit-to-be because my friend did, but I last-second decided to be a bandit because Savage Blow was AWESOME. Since then, the person that was my motivation was Touzokouu, don't think any of you know him her. I've almost caught up to him, I think.
I made my Hero very recently. I knew I wanted to make a warrior, and I had a few friends on BL to inspire me :D

I made my hermit/night lord because i thought that assassins were the ones who used daggers. After i 2nd job advanced, i was too lazy to make a new character. For the record, i wasn't stupid- there was little/no guides to help me choose back then, and i didn't read what the job instructor said.
After my nl got hacked i made my marksman because i thought that both bowmasters and marksmen got hurricane, and marksman had cheaper weapons with more attack. I figured that it was a no brainer. I still regret making a marksman, but i'm 165 now and there's no turning back.
I was such an idiot...
I swear I remember a thread like this being posted once before, may be wrong though, can't be arsed to search for it.
Regardless, I dunno who to choose. Only reason I went I/L was because my IRL friend who played a cleric at the time told me that I/Ls could mob while F/Ps were more for 1v1 (This was before Ludi/poison builds were considered). I liked the idea of mobbing over 1v1 and since he was a cleric already, I/L was the only choice left for my magician.
When my wizard was 4x or 5x I think, I started noticing these speedy dagger users that could hit 6 times with a single attack. My 15 year old self was was mesmerised by the numbers as they stacked on top of each other in rapid succession (I don't think any other class branch could do this until 4th job, not that I had any idea about 4th or even 3rd job at the time). I wanted to be able to do that as well, and I had seen the Cass equipped on someone else and had liked it over the Reef Claw. Thus my STR bandit came into being.
Finally when pirates came out, I wanted a ranged class, that was all. Gunslingers were the natural choice. Got it to lolsair, hated it for causing me to forsake my archmage, my first character. Am going to start playing it again soon though once archmage starts 100% 1hkoing skeles (very close), as my first character is now becoming the character it should have been from the start.
I have had no role models that weren't randoms I saw while wandering the Maple world.

During beta, a friend suggested that I should become a mage. Played for three hours and got bored quickly, not to mention the fact that my brother disapproved of me secretly downloading MS onto his computer.
Eventually my little cousins started playing, and they encouraged me to start playing again. One of them idolized Tiger and had a Spearman and Cleric, and the other was a Sin, so I became an Archer. Of course, as I made my way into 2nd job, I started getting the 'lolArchers suck' comments, particularly from the sins. But being the stubborn [censored] that I was, I continued onwards as an Archer, if only because I tried out my cousins' characters and quickly became bored. I guess I stayed with Archers because I had to constantly think on my feet more. And the whole 'Archer Pride' thing that the community used to have back then. All this was about a year before 4th job.
I was forced to quit MS right when 4th job was finally released, and just recently came back about a month ago. I now switch between a Wind Archer and a Crossbowman as my mains, and eventually plan to start a Hunter when the Adventurer rings make their way over here. (Watch me get like four or five critical rings, two of them reserved for the future legends. >_>)

I made a slinger cuz i wanted a good attack class. theres too many bowmen and too many sins, and i dont really like the gameplay of a xbow, and i didnt want a warrior cuz i didnt want to have to fart around with accuracy equips. so the only choice left really was a slinger. i also wanted to make a dit, which i did, but then i got bored of it after i maxed SB, so i quit it after 6x. so now im pretty much slowly leveling a slinger (8x right now).

Well, first time playing Maple in Beta I went with Spear-Warrior, but not knowing about how to put stats I messed up and had some LUK as well as INT, so by level 25, I was suffering with insufficient stats to wear gear and deal average damage (Yeah, I screwed up my stats that much). When maple officially released into oMS, then I went with a thief because they seemed like a fun class to play (Yes, real fun existed back then) so I went with that and got the fun that I wanted.
Though over time and until now, I really regret choosing this forsaken class due to a large number of factors which shall not be mentioned here least I turn into a Nostalgiapapaya about today's world.

Winwy, SunnyDelight, and Keturah were my inspirations when I created my Bishop.
I wasn't really inspired by anyone when I made my Corsair. I just liked the skills when they were first undergoing testing in KMS. If I had to pick an inspiration, it would be Shrapnel from KMS (blitzkrieg) on these forums. His C-2 training video was what sealed the deal for me on Corsairs.

I usually play as a warrior in most RPGs, so heh. And since I've played several games involving elemental weaknesses and all that garbage, I went more into research and decided to choose the path of White Knight, and eventually Paladin. I don't regret that choice one bit. God I love whacking stuff around with elemental attacks.
Choice of weapon was Blunt Weapons because I love big weapons too. :goggle:
And as for an inspiration.. back in the older days, Mondays was #1 Bello, and the highest Paladin as well. Miss having you around, bro.

When a friend of mine first introduced me to Maple, he showed me the 4 classes we had at the time, and I saw that the Mage could use lightning so I said "I want a Mage!" so he helped me with getting to Lv.8. So after advancing he showed me his character(a Warrior, with messed up stats of course, we were like 11) but while he was playing an Assassin came by and killed a few monsters (this was in the summer of 2005, so there wasn't really any KSing problem yet) and I was like, WOW that looked AWESOME. So when I finally got to play the game at home(although I had crappy internet until early 2006, so it took long) I made a Thief (of course, with messed up stats, although I didn't know that yet). After a while, I started youtubing for thief videos and I saw a Chief Bandit using Assaulter and such and I went like WOW again. So I decided to quit my 10 STR 12 INT Assassin-Rogue and made a Bandit, but since I used all my character slots in Bera and didn't feel like deleting anything I went to Broa, where I still am today.
For my other characters it was a little less complex. I made my Gunslinger because I liked the way it looked and I heard that they weren't based around damage all the time, but more around speed, which was nice. And at Tespia I got to play a Bowmaster(I still reported bugs) and I liked it, but didn't want to get to 120 for just Hurricane (I didn't really like most of the other 4th job skills, even though they're usefull) so I made a Wind Archer. For Aran the ring was enough motivation.
The fact that my class is all-around superior. Why would I settle for anything less?

When I was first was introduced to MapleStory, I looked at the four classes. To my middle school brain and my inner Naruto fanboy around then because I was just discovering manga, a class that could throw shuriken and kunai seemed absolutely cool and sounded actually pretty innovative. Even just reading about the gameplay on the website fascinated me enough. And watching videos about early dexless sins and the people who I talked to in real life about MapleStory really helped me support my decision. Today, I still like my NL; not for those reasons of course (particularly the LOLNARUTO bandwagon) but that it's a nice gameplay style I'm comfy with, and that's it.
IF, MapleStory ever allowed 14 letter IGNs, I would make a slinger in a heartbeat for the sake of being a guy running around with guns named "SmoothCriminal".

Made whole bunch of newb characters that i didn't like with crappy igns. Then i found the awesome pro-ness of having 1 word/2 word no numbers or leet igns.
Took my cousin's level 23 archer into my bowmaster cause i wanted to use inferno (LOL i know right? But that was back when inferno did platform burn damage that was taken out and we got lolinferno). I didn't get bored, i just didn't want to be pressing one button forever as my main attack, not to mention the crappy HP that archers have. He's my bossing mule for now.
Too few buttons turned into OMG hella buttons, i.e. the buccaneer. Made this guy when they came out and haven't looked back since. I don't fall asleep training anymore cause i have to abuse the iinvincibility frames :) They also had good HP AND pretty attack animations.
Aran now just because their attacks are pretty and new and it being my first 3rd job character i've made without the help of my cousin :P
All my other mules were essentially mules. My Bishop was supposed to be an HS mule, but my guildie leeched it to a bishop so w/e. I might think about using it as a bosser if i can learn to pot right and get it a zhelm/scarlion hat.
My motivation doesn't come from people, but merely by how nicely the skills look animation wise :P

First time, I simply wanted a class that was both new to me and (at the time) rare to find. I was having fun with it, oh so much fun~
I kinda wanted to quit at 3x because it got really difficult for me to level, and this was before places like Amoria came out. My main inspirations at the time were my friend Dan (danw06) and Omar/GunsRus2, now known as oMarvelous, who were two of the nicest archers I had ever met. I kept going because of them and realized how much I adored the archer class.
After I lost my character to a "hacker," I nearly quit GMS because I was in no mood to start over, especially after having gotten so far on a class I loved so much. And then I saw Retalion's video and boom. Decided not to give up on the class I loved. Soooo here I am now. In other words, he's one of my main idols. :D (I'm sure he's sick of hearing this from me by now, lol)

Google. I found Hidden Street, looked up the skill pages and thought that the archer skillset was pretty nice. Kinda ironic since I assumed that the low number of buffs meant that it's not the sort of buff-reliant squishy class which I usually avoid. Boy was I wrong. But by the time the squishiness really kicked in, I'd gone too far with it to be bothered to change class.

My first choice of class in beta maple was a i/l wizard. got it to lv 45 and found it hard to keeping it alive with the massive MP drain skill and MG of course. and don;t forget mp pot cost double as much as HP pot. I have to live with high def equipements to take hit with out MG. and pretty much messed up the max MP skill at 1st job. and then I starting to do some research and back in 2005 cleric was the one who able to make some decent mesos from litterally "looting" the mesos from monster. and guess what? I made it to lv 50 and have enough money to start a guild call "BambooGarden" <- if anyone was in this guild and know who BambooStory is please PM me :( I miss you guys. And this is my first character made all the way to 3rd job after a year of fun training. until later in in 2006 a bunch of ks sin show up and starting to declare guild ks war. and then I made a hermit. but was illegally playing.. and then quit for long while. after 4th job released. and I didn;t know going to boss run was so important or w/e I made a Shadower. because I just hate "slow" so yeah so far til today. enjoying this game in peace with new friends.
Oh the reason I made a shadower was I watched some 4th job shadower video I just fell in love with assassinate :( I can;t help it.. its sooo pineapple sexy

Well if you mean my very first character which was an I/L mage on ems. I made him because my friends told me there were three mages: F/p's, I/L's and Clerics and I was always attracted to the mere concept of magic. I hated poison, I loathed being a support character, so I/L it was. I remember my very first maple half an hour where I couldn't figure out how to continue XD. You know the platform where you first started out before the training camp, right before you got that apple costume? You had to double click a person and I only single clicked rapidly, crawled in every direction, tried to hit hidden blocks like on Mario and then I just gave in and asked my friend on MSN. (Nexon should change clicking to double-clicking :3).
I continued making mages on maple island and was smart enough to pick magic guard over magic armour but got both bolt and claw on my very first mage. I was confused with the space but luckily went to ellinia right away while trying to talk to everyone in lith harbour (<3 Paul). My third mage, I enjoyed maple island way to much, reached more the lvl 13 and was my main in EMS (lvl 37 ftw :O). I started a sin as a fun character thereafter because I liked their speed and jump attacking, made him 36 and finally got a GMS account from my friends :).
After my EMS experience I made a Cleric, cause supporting seemed more important then in other MMORPG's I'd played, this was around the ariant/annerversairy patch. I made him my main and also made another sin as a fun character and a Hunter on advice of my friend who was a hermit and wanted SE. I continued making more jobs and quitting them at lvl 50 or something (stuck with my cleric till highest lvl that time 63 ^^).
A new job, a new chapter begins. I've always been someone to stick with the news on games, so it didn't take long before I found out about the pirate class. They both seemed pretty awsome to me at first, but I took brawler over slinger cause 1st and 2nd job looked a bit more appealing (not dmg wise). At the same time I made a slinger cause I was just such a job hopper. I made my brawler in demethos and my first slinger in Broa I think. I was amazingly suprised by the fastness of a gunslinger. I loved him so much that I took him over my brawler and remade my current one in demethos.
Such fun continued in second job, where I felt pro soloing 480 cp or something while maneuvring trough the mobs in room 4 with summons up with my just gotten recoil at 49 or so. I got into a bit of a slum at 5x, where mp3 didn't provide much challenge on the bottom platform and way to much challenge at upper platforms. Quests and PQ's have pulled me through since I was always a questing wh0re (did every quest on my cleric below lvl 40 requirement and a lot over that, have the quest medal on my Corsair and continues to do every new quest chain). At 6x I discovered the awsomeness that was wind raiders. I felt extremely pro when I first reached them and got a way better %/hr. Around that time we got the Explosion event (75% exp needed to lvl) and the rep system which pulled me through c-2/wind raiders.
I reached 80, had internet issues for a few months and got to around 94 with HH, memory monks and again wind raiders. Internet got fixed and so did my lvling slum, I went power lvling on HH which I now was great at finding one (Ofcourse time zone and demethos helped with that hehe). I reached 115, made a blaze wizard on the way to get me pro blessing, glaze capsules (mabye I made him earlier, can't recall, at least it was when the cygnus patch came), time pieces and a ksing mule for obvious reasons. I now made some great friends and (shout out to annie aka Sukkmyheal) which pulled me through these lvl's since she duo'd with me at skeles for free usually (only paid 10 mil once iirc). I reached Corsair, got the cannon glitch and I now realize that I completly went off-topic...
Well my greatest inspiration was basically the class itself since it had so many 'fun' skills like recoil, fake shot, recoil, ice splitter, hypnotize, grenade, air strike. Yes, I find immobilizing mobs funny XD. That they were damage power houses I've now experienced for myself (<3 cannon), but it hadn't been part of my motivation untill around 5x or so since I didn't know that they were.
Though, if I had to pick a person who has inspired me it had to be Keikotan for being so powerfull and great at controlling her character. I admire your determination and will to be the best corsair that you can be. Props to you and I hope you make 200! :D
TL;DR: Keikotan

I started a month or two before 4th job came out, so i only knew about 3rd job as far as the last advancement and decided I wanted to be a white knight. I didn't understand how exactly the classes and job advancements worked however, so at lvl 30 I became a fighter thinking at lvl 70 i could then become a white knight. >.< Oh well i ended up liking the crusader job so it wasnt the end of the world.

Back when I first started 4 years ago, my friend who got me involved in maple had the mindset of "everything but Assassins sucks," so I made an assassin. However, after making many other characters and doing loads of research on each of the classes, I eventually settled down on a Page about 2 years ago. To this day the only motivation has been being able to use the elemental charges and messing around with various buffs and attacks, and I have no regrets whatsoever.

idk but i have always like magicians.. especially clerics. And MapleStory was the first RPG i ever played. My inspiration was jessbunny, the priest who made to 200 without genesis. I had 3 clerics before my current bishop(made in 2008, started playing in 2006) and many other chars. The previous two was deleted and i still have the level 55 cleric on my account, next to my level 50 f/p :3
so yeah, im just fascinated by magic. Thats what inspired me even tho genesis got me to 154.
My current infighter/lawler, i just have to say, ShiKage and iPunchEm viidyas.

She was my number one inspiration. While she released her videos I looked up to her. I loved her videos and the music she put behind them and just making i/l's look so f'cking cool pre-4th job.
From that point on I was an I/L at heart. I will forever remember NllN. My number one Idol.
Unfortuntately she quit maple and deleted all her videos. I managed to find this last one someone saved and re-uploded. You will be missed NllN <3 I kill gatekeepers in your honor.

So I already mentioned how oMarvelous/GunsRus2 and Retalion inspired me to continue my Hunterhood.
My lovely boyfriend, John/Velysto, inspired me to make a Corsair. That should be enough to know. :'D Granted, I'm still an Outlaw but I'm getting there... but I love both classes lots and don't see myself replacing any of them anytime soon.

Originally when I started off MS, I was playing with my 2 RL friends (now quit). One had I/L, and one had Cleric; they told me to take the F/P wiz route for 2nd job. Little did I know I would be going on a very unique adventure.
Back then, there weren't many F/P wizards, let alone F/P Mages. Anytime I came across a fellow F/P, it was like striking gold. So after a while, I started looking up videos and of course, I see videos of F/P Mages misting, exploding, and doing all sorts of cool stuff. That kept me going.
Of course, I had a few inspirations for my F/P, but one notable inspiration was from Dan (FrozNlite), now the level 200 F/P AM in the server I'm playing in.
Fast forward 3 years later. After I got my F/P AM to 141, I really took some time to think about why I was really playing my F/P AM. Even though it was fun (and harsh) along the way, was it worth my time simply spamming one skill for training as well as being stuck as a supportive role during boss runs (as well as enduring lolfp and lollukmage jokes)? So I decided to make a Dark Knight and make that my summer project (last year).
To make story short, I stuck it out, and I'm still going with my DrK. I have found myself enjoying my DrK in more ways than enjoying my F/P. And I found myself more useful in many situations. Of course, I have DrK inspirations, but I'll hold on that for now. =P

I didn't really have any inspirations or people I looked up to when I first started playing Maple which is the reason why the first 2/3 years was me playing random characters and jumping from server to server. I finally started to focus on 1/2 servers at last. I've always secretly wanted to play a spearman when I started but back then, they had a reputation of being hackers so I never made one until much later.
Now, I have a Dragon Knight that is two levels from 100 (yes, I'm a slow leveler after all those years of playing ;P ) and mostly focus on less than five characters. Yes, I still have my many alt characters but I mostly stick to those few characters which is an improvement from me starting a new main character every few months in the past :]
Unfortunately, I still don't really have a person that I looked up to... :|

I was wondering what inspired your Ranger, was it the fact that the bow is Hinkel, like your OC's last name? :P

If anyone says iPunchEm inspired you (High level Bucc who makes 64363523432 videos on himself..)
I. will. shank. you.
Anyways..
FireyStaff, look him up on ranks, from Bera, inspired me to first play this game and continue playing..
Idk where he is now, I miss him =/
Plus, believe it or not, he's a Priest o-o not an F/P xD

Crystaliris from Bera has always been my inspiration in making my first real main character as a cleric then priest then bishop.
She helped me alot through my years of playing and her husband is a very cool dude too. She's consistently been 30+ levels or more ahead of me
even to this day, and a good source of advice in various areas of the game.

My first character was an assassin, which I played 'cause it looked cool.
Next was page, which I played 'cause it looked cool.
Next was gunslinger, which I played 'cause it looked cool.
Next was bandit, which I played 'cause it looked cool.
That's it really. Super-awesome high-levels tend to give me an inferiority complex so I try not to look for them for inspiration.

PQing was my favorite activity in the game, and everyone was always clamoring for a cleric. I like feeling useful, it makes people so happy when they see a cleric just joined their party. But having only one choice for a healer class is bad, I think Nexon should give paladins and mechanic healing skills so there are more options

I could have sworn he had an account on this forum, either way it's rude.

Probably this beautiful piece of weaponry that I wanted to use like hell and Frostprey. Unfortunately I never gathered the materials for it.

Not to sound pretentious, but I've had a few people say I inspired them to be PA DrKs. Every now and then I even get someone in DFO saying hi, which is kindof cool.
Anyways,
First char: 2x Thief (dagger) (since then, deleted). Found a "Fork on a stick" at one point, started using it, loved the fact that I could hit enemies on platforms above me without jumping. Made a Warrior to take advantage of this, happened to be during a Valentines event. Found a White Rose, decided to be Polearm to take advantage of that. Never looked back.

My Drk was inspired by a combination of R3troSole and BSUCLA.
I wish i had something of R3tro's but i have BSUCLAs overall so...thats good.

You on earth would anyone look up to a fellow mapler? This game holds no accomplishment worth idolizing. Inspiration, sure but that is more of what a class looks like while being played, not something placed on a special player per se.
Back when I first started playing, I became a warrior because I loved close range classes and swords. I noticed someone on the boat back from Orbis using Final Attack. For whatever reason, it looked awesome and I wanted to become the class that had Final Attack. Clicking their name, it turned out they were a Page. This happened to be before 3rd job was released, so I didn't really keep up with my skills and classes.
Oh boy, it was because of that I became a Paladin, and I don't regret it in the slightest. I loved the skills and styles needed to properly play the Paladin class, and even though it was a shared skill that got me into being a Paladin, I'm happy that person on the boat was a Page. I also looked up to Stereo back when I frequently browsed Sleepywood, regardless of the fact I was a sword Page.

I spent probably weeks trying to come up with a good name for that character. I kind of picked his last name quickly and the lvl 70 bow did somewhat inspire me to use that. He first name, however, was the hardest of all but I eventually picked Matthias in the end ;P /useless OC info
And, of course, I wanted a character in Maple named after my OC, which I was very obsessed with at that time. I went ranger because I already had a sniper (mostly). :v

I shoot/hunt with a crossbow in real life, so Marksman was an easy decision.

I started playing Maple I believe towards the end of it's first anniversary- didn't really enjoy it as much so decided to delete it. A few months later, I found a lot of time in my hands and decided to give maple another try. When I made my first character, I found myself lost in Lith Habor (never got this far when I first played). I walked around looking for people but it was empty (mind you it was Scania!) then I struck gold- I met a guy named Ferdie. He told me to delete my to-be warrior character and make a magician instead_ I did so and met up with him again (He waited for me :}). After a little chat on life, he broke down the whole concept of Maple to me and how as a magician you don't have to worry about str and dex and all that mess. Old Maple before the x-less classes were made, dmg hoars, cash shop sluts, and all that was in....
I miss old Maple! I say we burn the newbies and dmg hoars and bring the classics back. *

This. Thangdinh275 was the greatest inspiration most hermits pre-4th job could have ever hoped for.
Initially though, a friend showed me crimson balrog on hidden-street when I was just starting the game. At that point something sparked and I wanted to take him down. Once I defeated him though, I kept finding other Hermit videos that were higher level or stronger than me until I got to a point where I was the one trying to do the motivating. That led me onto a sort of self-motivation knowing that I could inspire other people in this game through videos. And I just wanted to be the best. :)
Oddly enough I picked Assassin because I heard they were weaker than the other classes but faster - which is a concept that has always appealed to me in games. Little did I know that we weren't actually weak.

It's my RL friend that told me about maple. He was a dit at this time so i became a dit too. Then at level 44, i quitted for other games. One day, i stumbled upon angeliamsea videos. She became my #1 source of inspiration and i made a bowman. i stayed on him for a long time (2 years i think) to finally get him to level 72 (lol). Then, i created lots of character like a brawler (cause of ipunchem videos), a slinger, a cleric, etc... When arans finally came out, i created one and i fell in love with this job. He's now level 62 but i've been slacking on him lately. That's my little story.

Bandit: Not being an Assassin.
Brawler: Punching stuff.
Bandit: Made on in gMS, had alot of memories and alot of inspiration from Geewhoa (longtimeago) therefore when CBs got some nice upgrades in the first rebalance I decided to make one.
