Yeah, so I'm this grade-inputer at this tutoring agency, and this was what happened.

*Receives worksheets from student teacher.*
*Inputs grades.*
*Highlights sheet*
*Gives to the student teacher*.

It gets really boring at times, especially when no one was giving you any worksheets to grade.

So...I did stuff on the computer (no, not look on stuff on the internet). Played minesweeper, highlighted random items, and other boring stuff.

Then I even got bored with that stuff. So I read the mini stories and books that the tutoring agency had. Yes, they all ranged from Kindergarden to grade 9.

I even finished those. Repeated some books several times.

There was no internet too. Nothing to do there.

So...I read some documents on the computer. They were all mildly interesting, mostly about the tutoring agency.

Then I decided to look at my friend's screenshots of Maplestory. Her mom was the leader/CEO/president/etc. of this tutoring agency.

So went to the folder. Looked at a couple. All amusing.

Then I went back to My Computer. Noticed that I could see my friend's documents. Decided to view them. Not like they're embarassing...

Saw pictures of her trip to Australia, meh.
Then I struck gold-I found an epically huge story on Maplestory that my friend and her best friend (let's call her M) made. I was entertained. I almost laughed when I saw myself being portrayed as a gangster.

Read the whole thing. Several times, actually.

Then I wondered if she created any other stories. Wandered a bit, then I found something.

A Word document on something....er...unusual.

So I decided to tease my friend about it.

When I went home, I logged onto Maplestory, and talked with my friend. However...she was depressed. Suicidial. Not Emo, though.

I attempted to comfort her but I don't think it helped that much.

So...sometime in the conversation, I slowly started to inch towards the event. Mentioned the pictures. Then the Maplestory story. Then...teased about the document.

I can't really judge someone's emotions on Maplestory, but I'm hazard to guess that she was furious.

She typed "My best friend (M) made that. I would never delete it. It's the only reminder of her I have.

(M) moved to China a year ago.

So I teased a bit more, then logged off.

Later that week, she e-mailed me.

"How and Why did you go and view that?"

I said I was bored at work and viewed the documents.

Now one of the whole reasons I made this rant.

She told her parents and sister that I snuck around the computer. She says they're furious, and her sister e-mails "You're in biggggggggggg trouble."

So yeah, I'm screwed. I guess I really shouldn't have been looking around on someone's computer.

The only explanation I have was "I was bored." which would promptly fire me from the job.

I suppose I could retaliate and say that she's suicidal but I don't think they'll believe me.

Any help? My parents are going to be so mad when they find out...and I'm extremely angry at her. I'm wanting to call her a tattle tail, but I know it's my fault that I was snooping around. I'm especially mad that I kept her suicidal secret, too but she just had to tattle on me.

She knows my parents are going to murder me.

Yeah...I was going to do that first...but I'm still screwed. Her and my parents aren't exactly the forgiving ones.

Start looking for another job then.

You really have no choice if they won't forgive you.

A new job might not be so bad if you find one that's not as boring as your current one.

Contact your boss and tell her that her daughter has been very depressed lately, and that you were trying to cheer her up. Tell them that you've come across her folder by accident, and that you thought maybe you could use something from there to help you cheer her up while you were playing an online game together. Admit that you've screwed up and that she got angry at you instead.

Don't mention that she's suicidal right away, as that will be an insult to her parents' pride (I'm guessing they're Chinese), and they'll get pissed off even more. ("My child is NOT SUCH A FAILURE!! STFU!!")

If you're lucky, it'll make your snooping case seem insignificant in their view, which it is, really. Then mention that she's suicidal and that you're worried, etc.

If you lose your job in the end, tell your "friend" to screw herself, and find a better job (and friend).

invasion of privacy. you aren't getting paid to snoop around. you're getting paid to do your job. period.

if you treated the job as something serious, you wouldn't have done that in the first place.

now learn to deal with it and move on.

Up to this point, you're doing OK. However, it ends here.

Everything in the above quote counts as invasion of privacy. You shouldn't have been snooping around, no matter how bored you were.

Now, this part really confuses me. You said she was suicidal, yet you teased her about something you clearly should not have known about. Did you not know she was suicidal at the time? Because teasing someone who is suicidal usually only helps push them towards going over the edge.

I can't really judge someone's emotions on Maplestory, but I'm hazard to guess that she was furious.

She typed "My best friend (M) made that. I would never delete it. It's the only reminder of her I have.

(M) moved to China a year ago.

So I teased a bit more, then logged off.

Now, after what she had said, I would have took it to mean, "Cut it out." Her best friend had moved, and you were teasing her over the only thing she had to remember her best friend. I expect that at that point, if she wasn't red with fury, then she was probably on the verge of, if not already, breaking down into tears. I expect that she probably felt betrayed.

While I can say that ratting you out was probably overdoing it, it still should have been expected. After all, you did invade her privacy, and tease her about it when she was suicidal. Her parents' fury is probably nothing compared to hers.

So yeah, I'm screwed. I guess I really shouldn't have been looking around on someone's computer.

On the bright side, you learned something.

The only explanation I have was "I was bored." which would promptly fire me from the job.

Expect to get fired. Also, expect it to be harder to find another job, as I believe you are required to put down previous employment, and reason for leaving. "Fired" for any reason looks really bad on an application.

I suppose I could retaliate and say that she's suicidal but I don't think they'll believe me.

If they did believe you, though, that might make them angrier. "You went through our daughter's documents and teased her about it while she was suicidal?"

I wouldn't consider what she did to be tattling. You hurt her. While she could have talked it out with you, the fact that she is suicidal makes it harder for her to think clearly. She was easily too angry to want to talk it out with you, and considering you invaded her privacy while on the job, it would also make sense for her to inform her parents.

Anyway, my advice is simple. First, realize what you did was wrong, and realize how it probably affected her. That will make the next step, your apology, more heart-felt. Hopefully, she forgives you. Hopefully, you keep your job. And hopefully, you never make these mistakes again. Aside from that, I don't know what to tell you. However, I'll be praying everything works out for you.
