Yeah this Vista computer + crappy ISP is starting to piss me off.

Story:
It is a 1 week old computer, and hence is still clean (I just did a virus scan which supports this hypothesis). However, I've been having some major problems...

Problems:
1. No programs besides Firefox, Windows Update, and formerly MapleStory are allowed to connect to the internet (I don't know why, not even Internet Explorer/Opera work)

-Web installers (ie for Java and Visual Studio) are broken and do not function properly as they cannot connect to the server

2. Torrents do not work (I'm pretty sure this is the ISP blocking it though and that is why it is separate from #1)

3. GameGuard refuses to start (this after the last server check before it worked and hence is separate from #1 which has been always a problem)

Now with I attempted all I know and disabled all the firewalls in an attempt to see what was wrong, but that didn't change things at all. I'm sure that it isn't the router's firewall, but it may possibly be Windows Firewall (even with it disabled the problems persisted). :f5:

Whats your ISP?

Clearwire -_-; But it isn't the cause of the problem except for #2 because my brother is on the same network as I and his computer does all the same tasks with no problem ...

Might be that annoying UAC (User Account Control). It's that thingy that says

1. Do you want to allow or disallow this program?!?!? and does other crap.

To disable it, go to

1. Control Panel
2. Classic view
3. User Accounts
4. Turn User Account Control on or off.
5. Uncheck it.
6. Hit okay.
7. Restart.

Hope this fixes it.

Thanks for the suggestion. I disabled it but no other programs are able to connect :f4:, even with my firewall disabled...

I am 99% sure your antivirus is blocking everything.

Alright, I'll remove it and replace it with a less Nazi-esque one. And it worked, I swear I disabled it multiple times before posting this and it did nothing, but uninstalling killed all problems (besides Torrents). Thanks Magus. AVG is recommended?

I'd probably just remove it to test things before I went ahead and installed something else after removing the current running AV. Just keep up a firewall + remove the antivirus. If it works perfectly fine, THEN install the new antivirus.

I support AVG. But if you can, I suggest NOD32 as well.
