View Full Version : Nexon added a new security system that totally fails...

I have a password that is kinda hard to type, so I tend to get it wrong sometimes. Today I got it wrong 5 times, and discovered a new "security" feature that has been added. If you guess your password wrong 5 times, a message will pop up saying you are blocked from your account. The ban seems to be 5 minutes

I'm guessing the idea was to try and stop people trying to guess others passwords. However, there is one big problem with this. If you enter an incorrect password while the ban is up, then you just get the incorrect password error. If you enter your correct password, you get the ban message. That's really going to help keep accounts secure...

So congrats nexon, great idea!
More like just pissing people off...

(Oh, and the ban clock is slightly weird, it seemed my ban was lifted a few minutes late, though the total was around 5 minutes I think)

this is actually a lil old, but it seems good for people who might have given out at least theyre login name.

This was like...a month old?

Anyways, it sucks. A hacker/friend can try to guess your pass and get you banned lol.

I never understand how people can type their password 5 times in a row wrong >_> That's just me though. Once, maybe. Twice, understandable. Five times? gg

I find this system pretty nifty as you'll be able to know when someone is trying to guess your pass/hack you and then you can go for minimal damage or something.

Lol yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Someone that knows your login ID can just purposely get your password wrong a buncha times and prevent you from logging in. :f3:

Okay, sorry. I'm surprised that I havn't ever triggered it before now. A lot of the time I get it wrong a few times, obviously I never got it wrong more than 4 times.

If you have a mix of lower case and capital letters, and password is quite long, it can be easy to type wrong.

I don't get how it could help a person that gave out their login name

Mods may as well just lock this if it is old news

Five times? gg Perhaps not everyone types their passwords in with a light on, and I know my password is overly complicated with capitalization and all but I have yet to type it wrong more than three times :f4:

Gameguard disables my keyboard at the login screen, so I have to copy/paste my password from other programs. >_> I've never got it wrong yet.

Has anyone ever actually tested if you can stop other people from logging in using this?

This is quite old, and if you can't get your password right the first 5 times, get a new one.

I don't think anyone's actually tested to see if it's universally blocked or just for the computer or IP of the person who typed it wrong that many times.

Too bad people don't see that brute force can't be used now, basically.

A month ago, wasn't the ban for an hour? Since when was it shortened to five minutes?

BTW, you can go ahead and have fun with the banning system... just ban someone for five minutes to piss them off. :f2:

Maybe they have caps lock on and are too stupid to notice. I, personally, used the change password feature which gave me a totally random password, something resembling 7ghwei18mn, and sometimes I manage to get it wrong 5 times. :( Even though I memorized it.

EDIT: I think I may have mentioned this in another thread, it's not that hard to bypass that message, so any person with an IQ higher than 100 and a pin cracker can still crack it.

It's actually quite obvious, but I won't say anything.

I got it wrong five times once, it was because my computer crashed and something boned up. ._.

That's one of the reasons why I never make my password very complicated...
