The English version of LaTale is still in Closed Beta, but ends today. Open Beta will be in late August, and it's confirmed they do a server wipe.

Who's gonna play when they open the Open Beta / Official version?
And what are your opinions about this game?

Very cute, and TONS of buttons up at the top (key slots I suppose). Anyways it looks interesting, it is a matter of how fast it is and if the game play is actually addicting.

I think many people are going to choose for Gunslinger.

Although 2nd job advancement is at Lv 80.

I've haven't played the game myself but I've heard lots of good things about it. I'll probably make a Blader to counter all the Gunslingers. Hopefully this game won't become a massive grindfest.

Aha no there not.
Its one of the least populated classes.

Everyone will be guardians, travellers, warlord a few artists and alot of sorcerers.

Yeah spads, I'm gonna play OBT.

Gunslinger's not really gonna be a popular class because not many people, well, not many English players are fans of the "Fast but weak" style. Lol, big numbers.

Most of the players in CBT were Sword Warriors, Bow/Crossbow Travelers, and Mages. Knights were like, nonexistent lol. Ratio of knights to other classes was like 1:25. (Knight:Classes)

I'm either gonna be a Spear Warlord, or a Water Sorcerer.

Surprisingly not as weak as everyone is saying knights are.

Not to mention that when you get to higher levels, BW Templars get banhammers.

The buffs are;

Resistance Aura (M.Def)
Offense Aura (Attack)
Defense Aura (Def)
Mobile Aura (Moving speed)
Accuracy Aura (Accuracy)

I'd say they're pretty good.

There's also two skills called "Lightning Heal" and "F Lightning Heal". Not sure what those do yet.

I found this page (http://www.mymmogames.net/wiki/index.php/LaTale:Basic_Skills), which has the skills. Does anyone know how the skill system works? Do you unlock skills by leveling and then add as many points as you want to them? Are they all available at the beginning? Do you get skill points per level?

I read more about the game and I'm interested in making a Dagger Traveller.

This game beats out Maplestory in a lot of good ways.

Quests actually give GOOD EXP, money, pots, and are repeatable up to 3 times.
Skill resets and safety charms can be bought from NPCs.
KSing won't benefit you much.

I'm a level 31 Crossbow Traveler and barely grinded at all.

IMO, partying is much better than in MS, although the radius is a bit small for my tastes. The graphics are better, and the areas seem more creative (Digging to find a huge monster that eats you and having to fight germs / cells anyone?). Most of the outfits aren't that bad either, although I'd have preferred it to be different based on class. Dying is a bit counterintuitive though, especially coming from MS to LaTale, huge monsters don't kill you, mobs of smaller ones probably will (CURSE YOU MONSTERS THAT CAN HEAL THEMSELVES AND OTHERS).

The Fashion Shop (CS equivalent) seems to be better. I like the idea of permanent clothes much more than the monthly crap of MS. A lot of items (Store Permit, Some clothes) are sold in game as well.

My only complaint really is that the lag is god awful at times and the pot system is a bit queer. I can live with cool down on pots, but a gradual heal isn't fun.

Mark
2008-09-24, 07:45 PM
Lol, don't even get me started on wandering into a new map and getting mauled by a huge swarm of monsters.

No invincibilty frames make it really hard to escape when you're in deep sh'it. Only way you can escape is opening up inventory and using a warp capsule back to town, but with my crappy HP, it's hard to pull it off in time. It's a good thing you only lose 3% when you die.

I guess no invincibility frames makes more sense than what MS does, although it does make for an annoying gameplay element. Being a warrior, usually I'll be able to run away to a nearby rope and wait for pots to heal if I notice I'm getting raped too badly. Reminds me of a funny story. I was about 30~33 in OB, and I was exploring the mountain area. I missed a jump, and landed on a small platform with 6 FUCKING BLACK BEARS. Lolinstadeath. You lose 2% of your money too, but its rarely noticed since I keep it all in the bank anyways.

Some quests piss me off though, like the GobleGoble and BogleBogle / Cart Beetle ones. "Hay gaiz, lets have them try to kill a monster that spawns once every thirty minutes on each of the maps, but make them have to kill the monster 3 times. Then we can make them do THE SAME THING three more times!"

Mark
2008-09-24, 08:48 PM
I didn't mind doing the BogleBogle three times as it was 30k EXP each time at like level 15. Which is hot. All you had to do was go to a secluded area and change channels, and comb the area, then repeat as necessary. Running into King Goblin was a bitch though. ;[

Game needs more servers/channels though. Trying to play it at peak times is impossible.

Yeah, they've been pretty good with updating the channels, I think it started at what? 5? 4? I think that'll be fixed with time, I doubt they expected such a huge amount of people to be playing in the first week.

This game looks pretty cool. Downloading it right now.

Any tips for a newbie? The website is typical of Asian MMO's, I can hardly understand how the classes work. How do you become a gunslinger? Guns aren't even listed as a weapon. Or is that like second job? What are the available second jobs?

Tips:

Do ALL quests. They are the opposite of MS's quests. Easy (most of the time), Good Exp, Good Money, Easy Pots.

There is no invincibility like MS. You get hit, you can get hit immediately afterward. Therefore, mobs are much more dangerous than in MS.

For most of the Newbie area, up until the Temple of Pluton, monsters will not attack you if you're just standing around. Touch damage doesn't exist in this game. Resting (sitting) is a good alternative to potting.

Pots have both cooldown and the "Earthbound" recovery system. I.E. It does not all fill up at once, but will come in spurts when you use a pot. It is more important to think than just charge in and try to attack a huge mob.

Partying is good. Good EXP, easier killing, ability to tank for ranged characters so they don't get hurt. Etc.

Your normal attacks remain your friend for a while, at least when you're not powerleveling.

Don't really worry about 2nd job. That's not till level 80, and that'll still be a while away.

This game is so fricked up. The opening music makes me feel gay that I made a character called eLove. I can't read shi`t on my computer. It's like crumped up together. Very annoying. You use the same moves over again and you have some deformed F5 face whenver you do "hard" attack or some speical skill. To me it's some MapleStory, Conquer online mixture. It's fund jump attacking if you do it right though.

There's only one server right now; it's called Iris.

http://latalers.com/guides/bow-explorers-101

Look here for a bow guide, it only goes up to the 2nd job advance, though, no further.

The abundance of quests early in the game seem to dry up by 2x...getting one skill every 20 levels isn't too much fun either. Honestly, I prefer jumping around on one map to grind than running around back and forth for hours for slightly increased exp. I haven't played much since my Knight hit 23.

Its a fun game, enough of a change of pace from MapleStory to be entertaining to me, I got to 48 then went back to Maple, Maple is just more my style.

Though MapleStory could certainly learn a few things from LaTale,

(Practical item crafting, instances, quests that give good exp, Professions, PvP[even though it wouldnt work in Maple], etc)

Colyo

The only thing I would like from LaTale to be brought to Maple is the good reward quests.

Professions though? I didnt play it too long but I didnt see anything like that other then digging which was a ridiculous Trickster Online ripoff.
