84: Max Energy Charge
xx: Max Transform
xx: Max Shockwave
xx: Max Energy Drain
xx: Leftovers to Buster
All of these might change when I try out the skills. I'm the kind of guy that likes to get all skills as soon as possible, so that I can have many options and see what feels good to play with. That's how I built my Chief Bandit.
First job:
- 1 Double Fire (0 SP)
Even if you hate Dash, and Infighter doesnt have the Dex to even warrent putting one point into DF. It isnt like a sindit where both classes put a majority into the same AP. DF damage is based on Dex, not Str
As for builds I guess Im just gonna follow the guide I make. Im sure I wont follow it to the letter though

He probably put it into Double Fire to not have to worry about always accidentally casting level 1 Dash and wasting MP. You can't do the second job advance unless you've used all your points and the only other place to put it is Double Fire.

Dash would still be more useful.
I always look at skills based on usefulness.
Thats why I chose Shield mastery over Chakra for my Shadower.
Basically because I would use it more. Pretty much every time I get hit.
I think dash would be useful even as a Infighter because you won't have Backstep Shot, FJ, or Haste.
Waste of MP? Not really, you must be jew if you worry about wasting MP.
Not like you have to Hot Key it either.

Yes, that's exactly why I'm putting the point on it. If Dash was on a separate key, like Haste, then I would probably max it or get more points on it. I just don't like the idea of pressing forward twice to activate it.

Actually, you can add it to a hotkey as well. I hardly ever double tap the arrow key to activate it, and instead leave it on a button.

Maybe not. I don't think Blitz is saying that if you hotkey it, the double-tap doesn't activate it as well.
If that's what he IS saying, then yes, that changes everything and I would definitely include Dash in my Infighter build.
However, I think he's just saying that you can hotkey the ability as well which gives you two options for activating it, but still leaves the original problem of accidentally activating it with the arrow keys.
Waste of MP? Not really, you must be jew if you worry about wasting MP. Beyond the borderline anti-semitism of your comment, which really doesn't belong here, you've got to be a true noob not to be worried about spending as much MP on a lvl 1 skill by accident as you would for a maxed lvl of any other skill in the same job. Especially in a class like Pirates which will deplete their MP faster than almost any other class will.
Plus, by activating it when you don't want to it could cost you in terms of other resources beyond just the MP as you lose some control over your now boosted character and mis-time a jump, run through a lava/gas vent too early, rush an enemy too quickly to get the attack in before you take bump damage, etc.
Funded or not, good resource management and character control is something any intelligent Mapler is concerned with which is why there is so much concern over the activation mechanism of Dash.
If Teleport worked on the same activation mechanism, I can guarantee that most mages would NOT put their first point into Teleport at lvl 30 and many wouldn't begin to put any points into it until they had saved almost half the SP to max it, because even for a class which regenerates MP by breathing the wasted cost and control associated with accidentally activating it would be detrimental to the overall training schemes of the class.

Omg I lost MP, it's not the end of the world. You make it seem like it is. Calm down there.
Theres a reason for MP pots. 1 MP pot won't ruin your whole financial budget.
And once again, you can't accidentally hit it if you set it to a different key, like Blitz says you can.
You are looking way too deep into 1 simple thing. You worry too much over the littlest crap. Continue and you'll become a miserable wreck.

Description: Momentarily increases speed and jump by double-tapping either the left or the right directional key.
Comment: This move disables itself if you stand still for too long.
Max Level: 10
Level 01: MP - 14 / Speed +12 / Jump +1 / 4 seconds
Oh no - 14 MP, and 4 seconds of your life. If you have to be funded to afford -14 MP, then your doing something wrong. And if you constantly make the mistake of tapping your arrow key twice, costing you to lose a large sum of money, you really need to stop playing.
Calling me a noob, and anti-antisemitic.
Bit of a hypocrite on the noob part.
Don't mean to flame. You just need a stop worrying about the littlest shit in a video game. (that rhymed)

And once again, you can't accidentally hit it if you set it to a different key, like Blitz says you can.
Again, if that IS was Blitz is saying, then yes it will alleviate the issue. But I don't get that interpretation from what he wrote. Instead I think he means that you have two different options of activation - one of Nexon's chosing and one of the your own.
Also, no one else who has played a Pirate has come foward to confirm this is the case. In fact, even they are stating that you may want to put your 1 point into DS instead of Dash if your an Infighter taking that type of build, so I'd be doubly surprised to learn that Blitz found out a way of working around Nexon's activation scheme that no other Mapler has ever discovered.
You are looking way too deep into 1 simple thing. You worry too much over the littlest crap. Continue and you'll become a miserable wreck.

Double-tapping on the arrow key is a very common occurrance for many people in positioning their character. I think the most common occurance would be hitting a monster and knocking it back just out of your close combat range (think dagger range rather than 2-sword range since we're talking about Knuckles here) then double-tapping to position oneself back into range for another blow while the monster is in flinch mode. Happens all the time until you can pin them against something they can't move beyond/across so they remain within your range.
Considering the amount of frustration that's already been discussed about the 2 second cool down for some of the other Pirate powers and the similar discussions about Final Attack delays for Warriors/Bowman which I have personally experienced, I think the concern over the momentary delay is justified. Although your 4 seconds is obviously an exaggeration for the point of the discussion, it's still an issue of throwing your timing and sense of distance off whenever it activates unexpectedly which will lead to more of a loss than just the 14 MP in many cases. And since this effect is with you for the rest of your Maple career as a Pirate, unlike things like FA which only work in relation to certain powers and can be worked around, it will always be a concern. I threw in the obvious exaggeration in reference to teleport to try and emphasize the collateral effect that unwanted activation could have.
Calling me a noob, and anti-antisemitic.
Bit of a hypocrite on the noob part:wink:
Hypocrite - no. Was it a justified name to throw at you - no - and that's a bad on my part. For that I apologize.
For the anti-semitic part though, your comment is borderline as I said. Any derogitory comment being related to the Jewish religion is the definition of Anti-Semitism. To state that someone who is being thrifty is Jew with that negative connotation is pretty much spot on with the definition.

guys even if you have dash on a key it dosn't stop the auto-activation via double tapping left/right ,and yeah if your not gonna max it double shot lvl 1 is a better choice
lvl 1 dash WILL really mess with you sometimes , after typing you usualy double tap the dirrection you want ..etc so it can be extremley anoying and accidently dashing at a boss can cost you the run so...even if you have it maxed it may be a liability
Well I think we need to be told what constitutes as a double-tap
Like do you have to "tap, tap" to activate or if I go "tap.......tap" will it activate.
Hard to explain through typing but I hope you understand what I mean
Spadow
2008-08-08, 05:32 PM
If you put 1 point into Dash it automatically triggers the activation when you tap left or right. And you are able to put Dash on another hotkey, for example my Dash hotkey is on ''`'', i can either press ''`'' or tap left or right to activate Dash.
EndlessAxis
2008-08-08, 05:33 PM
its more like "tap, tap" ..you gotta do it imideatly after the first tap, i noticed this happning to me alot when i'm changin dirrections...you got like..rougly a 35th-45th of a second to do the second tap...

Does dash' gift of mobility override its annoying-ness with the double tap?
I want to decide this soon. I kinda want max dash cause it looks nice and Speed is also a nice thing to have... but i haven't played a pirate yet, so i wouldn't know.=P

Sorry I didn't clarify my post better. I also didn't see the debate going on in this thread until now.. o_o; Yeah, like the others were saying, setting it to a key opens up two options: either pressing the key or double tapping the arrow keys in a quick succession. It's a really useful skill as a Gunslinger but as an Infighter the other first job skills are more important than some extra speed.

Why couldn't they just make this an option:
asssigned to a key, activate only through there. not assigned, 2 tap option.
Unless it is some unreasonable programming i guess...
EDIT:
So is 1 dash effective enough for an Infighter?
or would it be okay to ditch some Quick motion?
My build Would be this way (probably highly ineffective for training I'll bet)
max punchy skill
max dash
15 quick motion
16 flip kick thingy
Reasoning being that both skills are useless later on anyway and 5 accuracy/avoid isn't much to lose out on...
Criticism please =) -just a note: I don't usually follow conventional builds (my lolFail 12 FA ranger as an example). I just like people telling me what i should or should not do =P

They wanted it to feel like other games by force?
I don't really see a problem with not maxing it. The only place I would probably use it would be to get from town A to place B. But I could just use the beginner skill for that. While in mobs, I can just Elbow and Screw from monster to monster.

lol loose when i read that for a second i thoght you wrote i can screw monsters XDDDD
anyways i suggest if your not gonna max dash leave it at 0 cus lvl 1 day is just a pain in the rear anal section

i changed a few things in 1st job, i rather do 1vs1 than mobs, people always say mobs is better however i never found a good place where "mobs" cn be found in large groups. magicians lv the fastest in 1st job with a 1vs1 skill and i guess i am used to bowman cuz i feel 1 vs 1 is the way to go.
Second job, i see backspin blow and screw punch as skills used to make mobs and kil them, lv 1 is enough for them. Rather work on double upper for damage since they all have delay and cant be spammed. I also got some booster early because i cant live witout it.
Only noticeable change in 3rd job is level 1 energy drain, passive skill that steals hp and adds dmg? giv nao!! also left energy buster at 0 till the end since i dont see myself trowing orbs for lulz dmg.
Fourth job is pretty much unchanged i need to study it more before i decide.
Credits: KaidaTan for making the basic build, hope you dont mind my changes, i think this way it be more efective, at least for me.

Its an active skill I believe
I dont see the point in NOT maxing Buster. Its spammable, it does pretty decent damage, so....yea
And anyone who maxes Wind Booster is lulz. Do you really need 300 seconds of booster compared to maxing an attacking skill?

Its an active skill I believe
it doesnt have an mp consuption so i figured its passive. would need confirmation on this i guess.
skill
Energy Drain
Description: By using energy, changes a part of the enemy's HP into your HP. It can only be used while the energy is completely charged.
Pre-requisite: Energy Charge Level 1
Max Level: 20
Level 01: Damage 265% / 11% of damage converted to HP / 200% Range
buster suffers from the chain lightning sindrome, halved damage after every monster hit. infighters have plenty of strong mob skills, no need for a weak one. (weak compared to the others)

MP Recovery has no mp cost, but it is also active
Also, Energy Buster does not halve its damage, Energy Orb does.

mp recovery has a HP cost, it takes HP to heal MP, it has a cost.

Why do we need to max both straight and SK?
They are one of your few spammable attacks as an Infighter. Believe me, when you feel the delays on the other skills, you will be happy you maxed both
Also, Somersault Kick is your only 6-mob hit attack til 3rd job, so you basically SP or BB mobs together then SK them to death

Why not just max Dash over Quick Motion in the first job, and pull a Thief in second job and finish maxing Quick Motion at the end of second job rather than MP Recovery, which seems like a complete waste of points?
10% of your HP will probably end up being more than enough to restore your MP, sure, but with pot costs as cheap as they are with NLC, it seems rather pointless maxing it over Dash, especially because (unless they changed it) if you accidentely use Dash, you can simply turn around and disable it, while the extra speed could be incredibly useful in training, especially on flat maps such as STDs, or the bottom at Skelegons.

Yeah, I considered that. But to be honest I don't like Dash as a skill, especially if I have to give up nice things like MP recovery. Sure MP recovery is far from necessary, but once you max it you'll pretty much never need an MP pot unless you're bossing. Isn't that kinda nice?
I just don't think the 30 speed will be too handy. I also don't like the thought of accidentally double-tapping right to get a little closer to HT's legs and running headlong into them. I'm sure I can find speed in other places. (This feels strange to say since I'm a huge Thrust advocater, but I guess I'm not a fan of speed that you can't control that well.)
Sub Class: Most likely gunslinger.
AP build: Low STR. Capping between 30 and 50.
Any notes: Nope, not really. I'll probably, since pirates are new, have around 60 STR then reset it.
SP Build: More on this later. I need to research, though the stickied build seems awesome.
