Maple History Book/Crog

These probably have been answered before but I can't find the answer.

1. I've been doing the maple history book quest, but the box never even shows up. I've already taken 5 rides from ellinia to orbis. Before I continue my search, I'd like someone to confirm that the box is still the same box that would spawn beneath the light on the left side of the cabin. Also, it only appears on the ride from ellinia to orbis and not the other way, right?

2. What's with the crogs? I always see the ship there when I head outside, but it moves when I jump and no Crogs spawn.

If everyone on board is inside the cabin when the ship arrives the crogs will never spawn.

As for the box, just try a few channels, also wait for most of the boat ride, I believe I saw it spawn at 5 minutes before.
