I always buy the manga that I read (except doujinshi like FLIRTING RAILGUN OMG!11), so I'm not well versed in which manga are good and which suck massive balls.
Thus I've made some really bad decisions in buying manga: I bought...
Volumes 1 - 3 of Rosario + Vampire, which sucks in almost every aspect imaginable.
Volumes 1 - 2 of Haruhi, which portrays Kyon as STEREOTYPICAL MALE FACE #1.
Volumes 1 - 3 of Shakugan no Shana, which sucks.
Volume 1 of the horrific Negima!? neo, which is almost an insult to the epic original.
On the other hand, I've bought...
Mushishi 1 - 7
Yotsuba&! 1, 3 - 5 (VOLUME TWO IS ~THIRTY DOLLARS ON AMAZON)
Hayate 1 - 13
Negima! 1 - 23
Eyeshield 21 1 - 27
20th Century Boys 1 - 3
et cetera
Given
- A list of some of my favorite manga
- A list of my horrible purchases
- Desire for more manga
Find
More awesome manga for me (obviously needs to have physical English version)
P.S.: I'm planning on getting Gintama and Genshiken at next year's AX (like how I splurged on Hayate this year) when prices are at like $4/book, so no need to recommend those.
P.P.S.: If you have Yotsuba&! volume two in somewhat awesome condition, give please.
P.P.P.S.: If you can convince me to read manga online, that would be helpful. Both for me and my empty wallet. I have over a thousand dollars' worth of manga on my bookshelf, and I don't nearly have that much money to fling around anymore.

Wait, really? I've seen that one around, but the art is a big turn-off for me.

I'm reading Fairy Tail online atm. It's really good, slowly coming out in english.
I actually really liked Love Roma, and I thought the art was a big turn off at first too, turned out to be really good.
Some other good ones:
Black Lagoon
Monster
Saikano
Rave Master
Pretty Face
Hellsing
If you specify a genre I can narrow it down for you.

Er... comedy. And not shoujo comedy, either. I've heard good things about Pretty Face, but from my experiences, shoujo is one enormous "DO NOT TOUCH" category.
I think some good examples of this would be Yotsuba!& and Hayate no Gotoku.
Or epic. There are quite a few anime out there that just scream out "THIS IS EPIC" with each passing frame, so I'd think there would be something like that in the manga world too (though it'd probably be too quick a read for my wallet).
Eyeshield 21 and Mushishi fit in this category for me.

The art isn't that great but the actual content is hilarious.

Others:
GTO(love this series)
Love Hina
Azumanga Daioh(same artist as yotsuba)
Gintama(heard it was funny)
Rave Master/Fairy Tail
that's all off the top of my head for pure humor
EPICNESS:

If Pretty Face is shoujo, Vampire Knight is shounen.
I lol'ed when I read you lolbought Rosario+Vampire. I suggest you screen some chapters online before purchasing.
I think Love Hina is a good one to purchase. If I were to lolbuy manga, it'd be Love Hina and the entire Negima series up to date. Of course, twenty-three pineappleing volumes is a pretty penny.
Maybe try Welcome to the NHK! (http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=188), though you may be more interested in the Light Novel version, which I believe is completed in English. All three adaptations (light novel [original], manga, and anime) vary in some way, but it was a good run in my opinion.
Gacha Gacha (http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=44) by Tamakoshi Hiroyuki is one of my favourites, along with Pretty Face (http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=633) by Kano Yasuhiro. Though the endings may be a turn off for both of them, they're great laughs.
Midori Days (http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=1448) was a great experience too.
Otherwise, if you're looking for things not Comedy, maybe have a look at Suzuka (http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=787), and Saikano (http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=1816).
If you can find it, Mirrai Nikki (http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=6765) is pretty pineappleing godly. I don't think publication has started yet, but it's licensed by TokyoPop.
I agree with Joe, Welcome to the NHK! is an awesome read, as well as Midori Days.
- Gantz.
- Change 123!
- Yakitate Ja-Pan!
and... everything by Katsura, but if you don't really like Shojo... oh well.

Sorry, but I'm the one person in the world that hates GTO with a burning passion.
I'm already planning to buy Gintama, and I've got all four volumes of Azumanga Daioh.
Love Hina is one manga that I wouldn't buy simply because the anime bored me a lot. I've already read much of Rave Master, so there's no need to buy that.
Fairy Tail... contemplating. It's printing, so I probably won't have the chance to finish it.
Hellsing, I'm not so sure. I'll go look at a few chapters.

Eh, I read Pretty Face's summary and it sounded pretty shoujo to me. Maybe I'll go ahead and get it. Isn't it like 5 volumes or something short like that?
How different are the Love Hina manga and anime? I really need to know this, since I disliked that anime.
I was thinking about buying Welcome to the NHK, but I haven't heard that many good things about the manga (as opposed to the many shouts of "awesome" for the anime). Still a bit iffy on this one.
I heard about the Midori Days anime and thought the concept kind of stupid. It's really reminiscent of Parasyte, though I'm sure there are more than a few differences. I'll check it out.
No way @ Gacha Gacha. I read a few chapters before, and I didn't like it.
I've already got the first two volumes of Mirai Nikki (released as "Future Diary" in English), and it's pretty good.
As for Suzuka and Saikano... never heard of 'em. I'll check them out.

Yakitate Ja-Pan! is a definite no for me. I loved the anime, but the enormous price tag on that thing isn't worth seeing the same material in book form. D:
Gantz has already been on my "maybe" list for a while now. I've heard a LOT of good things about this series.
I wiki'd it, and Change 123 isn't available in English. You fial.
So up to now...
Probably going to buy
Gantz
Welcome to the NHK
Pretty Face
Maybe
Midori Days
Hellsing
Fairy Tail
Suzuka
Saikano
No
Everything else
Any other awesome series?

I read the fist volume of that a long time ago, I didn't find it that good. Does it get better?
FFFFFFFFFFF, Ikkitousen was awesome. So was Battle Club. I love Shiozaki, it's obvious no?

Ah okay, I'll go check it out then.
Even ranma 1/2? :f4:
Thirty six volumes = $360. Unless it's the greatest thing since sliced bread, there's no way. Plus it's not like the series is the easiest thing to find. Volume one is like six or seven years old! D:

Now we're talking.
Never read Ikki Tousen, though. I've heard that it's ecchi beyond belief, though.

Fan service through and through.
Definitely give Love Hina manga a shot, it's so much better than the anime.
And Pretty Face = shounen, trust me on that one.
If you like, try and read some of ranma online, my library has all 1-36 and I loved the series.
Midori days is great, just its sorta shojo-ish I guess.
Suzuka is in english, really good series, and I just love love LOVE Saikano. But essentially past all the crazy stuff it's a pure love story.

Bah, I'm gonna stick with my no-reading-manga-online policy. I might as well watch some of the hundreds of episodes of anime gathering virtual dust in the corner.
I guess I'll check out these titles the next time I go to Little Tokyo or Borders then.

Saikano made me super depressed for days after I finished reading it.
And if you didn't like Gacha Gacha, I don't think Pretty Face is for you.
Apprently, Suzuka is 12/18 so far for English publishing (or will be on the 25th of August)
Love Hina is completely different than the anime. The artwork is actually good. I hated the character designs in the anime, and they changed up the story a significant amount.

It was such a good series though. I was pretty happy with it.
And Pretty face isn't really like gacha gacha. Gacha gacha was like shoving the fan service in your face. Pretty face wasn't really like that.

Never read pretty face, but the fan service doesn't really make gacha gacha any less enjoyable. I could say the same thing about ichigo 100%, but it's still one of my favorites.

Chrno Crusade I enjoyed reading the manga to it. Very different to the anime as well.
Black Cat.. Anime and Manga vary a bit but I found it enjoyable to read. Action, Adventure.. sorta thing
Buso Renkin - I haven't finished this manga but I find its humour enjoyable and the action scenes good to read. Action Adventure again. Alchemists, fighting Homunculous but a different concept to Full Metal Alchemists, Alchemists and Homunculous..
Air Gear - Haven't read the manga. Watched the anime and found it quite enjoyable. Rollerblading to the extreme +_+ xDD
umm If you like Samurai's sorta thing theres Rurouni Kenshin.
Full Metal Alchemist :D I really like the manga. Very very different to the anime. Homunculous, Philoshopher's stone, Alchemists.. and action :D
D.N. Angel - Manga I find enjoyable but unfortunately it stops suddenly at volume 11. Which sucks!
D. Gray Man - I find it nice to read. The exorcists are all very interesting characters and I love the artists anatomy D: anyhow Exorcising evil uhh Akuma's..
Deathnote - It was good to read. Lots of talking xD Interesting how far ahead people can think in situations.
Anddddd NORA: Chronicles of Devildom - I find this really fun to read. Demons, humans, Action humour... Its very good to read +_+
www.onemanga.com if you want to read manga online but I'm not really the person to convince you to read online because well theres something just nice about being to lug your favourite manga around with you. Only thing I enjoy about reading manga online is Being able to read ahead further then what is currently released in books.
Hope that helped... Sorry if my descriptions are slightly vague ^^
