"Shaun was pleased to tell me more about the content release scheduled for early August.

There are three new areas that will be available to play in:

Phantom Forest is a 45+ level area which is haunted. There, players will find a Haunted House, Headless Horsemen and Elder Wraiths among other monsters, and may encounter the boss, Big Foot. Shaun described the forest as a “Forest of Illusion like Super Mario world.”

Phantom Forest leads to Crimsonwood Mountains that is a 70+ level area. The first area you must navigate is the Valley of Heroes where huge living pillars of stone known as Menhirs roam. These critters cannot be killed and players must use their timing and jumping skills in true platformer style to get through them. Players will encounter six new enemy types here, and find a number of caves which are actually solo-able dungeons. Finally, they encounter level 120 Guardians which guard the way to the next area.

Crimsonwood Keep is the ruins of what was once a great thriving Keep where the finest Masterian heroes trained and learned their trade. Another level 70+ area and a massive map.

In total, there are 31 new maps, 11 new enemies and new weapons – many which will be player created, and 12 epic quests, each with many steps and mini goals.

Finally, something that many players will probably appreciate, MapleStory’s “Naughty Word Filter” is being revised to be smarter so that entire words will not be “blipped” out just because they contain several letters which may be a “naughty word.” Can almost 6 million users (in the US) be wrong? No, actually it's quite free. NX=/=The whole game, and you have MTS. This expression is outdated.

NxProse only stated that the lowest monster is level 45 and the highest is 120. He didn't say anything else regarding areas or how many monsters are in the 100+ range.

Although I'm a bit sad, I thought they'd be like bosses in an area that you go to, not OBSTACLES for noobier areas that you want to go to, like Anego.

i wonder if the definition of high level is still 70+

i actually look forward to seeing a better curse filter. right now, it only hampers normal conversations since peopel who want to curse will bypass it anyways.

Do the level 120 guards mentioned work like Anego? That'd be sad, really.

Heh, I just noticed it at mmorpg.com, beat me to posting it here ;)

IMO, with the upcoming release of pirates, 120+ may be ignored for a while until Time Temple is released here with the exception of any other version original regions like singapore they choose to add which may contain 120+ bosses or even monsters...

I think the reason that Nexon thinks lvl 70+ people are high lvl'd is because most of the high lvls don't even post on their forums. They post on here and SW.

This sounds like fun. I seriously doubt it's going to be like the Forest of Illusion from Mario like they said though. Unless there's a secret area here and there that leads you to a new place only to find out you went around in circles. o.O

Well, those 11 new monsters better be pretty good EXP and on a great map... otherwise Nexon just bluffed us once again. At any rate what excites me is the new weapons. I hope they may actually be somewhat useful, such as a fast speed BW/Axe or a commonly available 1H sword around level 80-100(try finding a decent attack Fraute/Sparta).

That just killed my fun >=0 (hope JQ is easy... I have a hard time just jumping onto the platforms at APQ >.>)

I also hope that people are able to use return to town scrolls in this Forest of illusion.
Otherwise, you have a bunch of "hogh level" characters in the beginning going:

"Where the Hell am I?"
-uses return to town scroll in attempt to reset-
"You cannot use this item here"
"asdfjygwlekifruyhkjsdf!!!"

The "monsters" in the first image look like they will kill the shit out of you. I wonder if those are the Guardians and come in the shape of each class? I see a Warrior and Magician.

The Crimsoonwood Keep looks huge and very detailed, it awesome. Oh, and anyone notice the tree attacking in one of those screenshots?

I always expected the NLC expansion to come in August... The summer part one events end at the end of July, after all (the announcement isnt on the site anymore but it went till the 31st I think?).

As for those screenshots, they provide tonnes of information. THe first thing that interested me was the Headless Horseman on the "PkHG2" (I Guess that's Phantom Keep Hunting Ground 2? lol). Does this mean that Headless Horseman might be a more accessable boss for most? Additionally, that map is flat, making it look trainable. The question is for which group of levels. (The background of the map looks like a recolor of the current hallowed ground map except the trees attack you for 1 dmg here xD)

Another thing I noticed is a small change to the way buffs work. You'd notice in the Henesys screenshots that the potions are now transparent (the current ones have a whitish background and then the pot/pill). Doenst really effect anything but... yeah (I guess it makes those corner smegas easier to see? >_>). Then again, those could be just old screenshots of the game... I dont remember how they looked in beta/long ago before that.

Yes, I know archer's don't really have any def, but then again the person IS level 200 and wearing some decent clothes. Might not be 1....I'm guessing ~200?

I noticed something, when you are in front of the keep you don't see the castle over the barrier, but when you are in the valley of heroes you can see the castle. That's a little weird.

Yeah, it's just the regular 110 Bow.

I asked once whether Crimsonwood Keep and Sharenian had any contact, and he didn't really say much. I guess we can see now that they do!

Well, since it probably is a GM test server, it seems like they didn't get any hp job advancing.

The thing that I'm looking forward to most out of all this is a better curse filter.

Hopefully I'll be pleasantly surprised but I'm not really getting my hopes up about the new content.

Well, since it probably is a GM test server, it seems like they didn't get any hp job advancing.

199 * 22.5 = 4477 hp on average (possible range 3,980~4,975). Bosshunters = 300 hp. 300 (?) from other advancements. 4767 would still fall within the lower range (roughly 4,580~5,575) of possible bowman hp with bosshunter gear.

Not really, we know there's a weapon forging NPC there, so I think that's just a poorly worded way of saying that weapons are forged by players rather than dropped by monsters.

The quote said "Wandering the forest", while Menhir are only in the valley. I think it's pretty obvious from the context of the quote that it was talking about this Bigfoot.

There IS a fix for the screen lock glitch, though it isn't really official.

All you do is open up your Maple messenger, minimize it and throw it behind your mini-map. The screen locking comes from those goddamned Avatar Smegas, and whenever one pops up on screen, it creates its own "layer" thus "locking" your keys up. The Maple messenger fixes this for some reason.

I think this will come out next week because of some of Nexon's consistencies. For one thing, they're out of NX items, and I can't remember the last time Nexon didn't put in any NX items in a scheduled server check. Also, Nexonhas always released a content patch every month, so unless they have a problem it'll be out in July.

The point of axes and blunt weapons is that they're slower.

It's not supposed to be just a graphical choice that makes the difference. Axes and blunt weapon are SUPPOSED to hit harder, but hit slower, yet still maintain balance. While it is arguable if balance is actually struck, it'd be plainly unbalanced to have an axe/bw which is as fast or faster than a sword (this is, of course, ignoring the fact that axe heroes get pineapple'd in the ass due to poor skill design in 4th job... if you're looking for balance in the 4th job skill set, a change to the skills is what you should be looking for, NOT better weapons).

I'm just hoping they don't take this as an opportunity to release elemental weapons for Mages as a balancer, when in releasing a new area, they can fix the balance more fairly by just adding better monsters that are elementally weak. All along when I was speaking out about elemental weapons, I would repeatedly say "what we need is new monsters what we need is new monsters the problem isn't in the strength of the characters, but in the lack of good monsters". Well, this is Nexon's first shot to deliver fairness for Mages, let's hope they manage it.

I'm a little surprised myself. I'd bet there will be some allusion to it, or will be explained away once it comes out. Something like one of the NPCs saying "oh yeah there's another job or something right? oh well they were all off doing something else when the grandmasters were chillin' in here, so they got left out of the fun".

There was no overt allusion to Pirates in the main logo. Anything you could call as a set of knuckles could just as easily be a Thief's claw or even cutter. The only thing which would be overt would be the inclusion of a gun, and there is most definitely not one.

I'm thinking it's more of a 70-130 kind of place. The level range for the mansion is actually a lot bigger then most say it is. Most people would say the mansion is 45-7x but i say it's 3x-8x. The reason is because psycho jacks are VERY good traning for low 3x (not many people know about them though) and voodoos are good up until early 9x even. Nexon's good with making good monsters to train on, I doubt this area will disappoint in that aspect.

The point of axes and blunt weapons is that they're slower.

It's not supposed to be just a graphical choice that makes the difference. Axes and blunt weapon are SUPPOSED to hit harder, but hit slower, yet still maintain balance. While it is arguable if balance is actually struck, it'd be plainly unbalanced to have an axe/bw which is as fast or faster than a sword (this is, of course, ignoring the fact that axe heroes get pineapple'd in the ass due to poor skill design in 4th job... if you're looking for balance in the 4th job skill set, a change to the skills is what you should be looking for, NOT better weapons).
Interestingly, in the entire game there are no Sword/BW of equal level that are balanced when clean.

The average damage of a Sword (even without taking into account weapon speed differences) is always higher, the weapon speed just makes the gap larger.

The only time there's a clean weapon advantage for axe/bw is the Maple Dragon Axe, because it has a Normal speed and there's no equivalent sword.


In 2nd job it's not so bad because most sword users can't afford to 30/60% scroll, but once the swords reach a certain point (approximately 110 w.atk) there are no Blunt Weapons in the game that are stronger. Axes can compete with up to about a 115 atk Sword, after that they're out of luck -the sword is stronger.
