Well, I'm getting a new comp soon, and XP isn't being sold anymore =/. So, I guess I have to get Vista =0. Is there anything bad about Vista+MS.

...Did I just open a dark hole up? =

You did actually. Expect a bunch load of random glitches and some light and random vista lag here and there. (:

You can still maple, but don't be surprised if funny stuff happens.

Well I've personally never had any problems running MS on Vista, but I know a lot of people do. .-.

From what I've seen and heard, it's really half and half.
Half the time, you'll be part of the group with the weird glitches, and the others, you'll have no problem at all.

Luckily, I don't have any problems; I even don't D/C from Zak. :D
And that's surpprising since I don't bother turning off my music sometimes. xD

Vista+MS=Fail. You should go order a computer with XP or buy a preowned one :P

The issue with Vista is you've got about a 50/50 chance that your computer will work just fine. Service Pack 1 has helped deal with some issues, but there still are some bugs.

My family just got a new computer, with Vista, and I've yet to hear my brother complain of any problems.

Common Vista+MS issues include: low FPS, random disconnections (particularly at Zakum), and overall lag. If you DO have any problems, come check here for others who experienced the troubles you're experiencing.

Also: when you get your new computer, update the graphics driver right away =p

Even if you downgrade down to XP, won't you have to go back to Vista ? I thought that everything was going to Vista in the next few years making XP obsolete?

And to Lyssa~ I've never had vista before so I'm not sure how to go about updating my graphics card. Could you explain please?

Support for Windows XP will gradually taper off, if you're looking to Microsoft for help. XP will still be used by many people for quite a while though. Considering how long it's been out, it's a very stable operating system, and stability is very important for businesses, schools, etc. Once more of the bugs in Vista are taken care of, more people will be willing to upgrade.

Here's info on updating your graphics driver:

And as for everything switching to Vista, this Wiki article is already talking about the NEXT version of Windows. Only time will tell if Vista really gets to stick around or not.

It varies for a lot of people. I use Vista on my Laptop and I have no problems playing Maple Story. Others have horrible glitches and d/cs here and there. If you download Service Pack 1 for Vista you should be fine.

How/where do I get Service Pack 1? :f6:

The only problem I've ever had with Vista was with Zakum in Maple. I had to switch to low pic quality in the beginning of Zak- then back to high pic quality at the beginning of 2nd body, in order to guarantee I won't d/c.
I've had less lag than ever with my Vista compared to XP computers I've played on. Smooth sailing.

Other than that- I've had NO problems whatsoever with Vista. You should keep in mind that you're not buying a computer especially for Maple, it should be functionable for whatever you'd like to do with it, and in this case Vista is muuuuuuch more comfortable to work with [IMO at least].

With that being said, most people don't have any problems with Vista+Maple.

If I remember correctly... whem you downgrade to winXP, be wary that some newer hardware devices may not be available for use with xp due to lack of driver support.

Do a bit of research, find out what drivers you need and what upgraded ones do have XP support. Save yourself a bunch of hassle. In any case, installing drivers will also be a hassle. lol

Installing drivers is never fun, but if you're getting an older computer or any gaming rig, all of their devices are supported by Windows XP because gamers generally prefer XP to Vista. And make sure to either have a driver's CD or, have all your drivers downloaded on another computer then burn them to a CD, or try and use a flash drive.

And to any one who defends Vista... The initial goal of the Longhorn project was to develop a new file system (WinFS), and an entirely new architecture for the operating system. If you look at Vista it is still using NFTS and just looks prettier (but that forces all applications through Aero/Graphics Layer, which Microsoft originally planned to use to kill OpenGL but faced a law suit). Obviously if they meet none of their goals, it is a failure.

I just installed SP1... I hope this works. I had to delete maple because it was unplayable.

Maplestory works fine for me, and should work fine for most people using Vista. I've heard a few friends who even managed to use Vista 64-bit so that isn't much of an excuse. After getting SP1, the only thing that could screw over Maple Story is the configuration of programs you have running.

Just try Vista out. If you like it, keep it. If you don't, switch back to XP. XP is going to be supported until about when Windows 7 comes out, and even longer if people complain enough.
