So I was killing the Homuns in the Closed Lab, right? I begin to doubt, 20mins in, whether the device drops at all. I continue killing, and I end up stunning 1 Homun DIRECTLY beneath the pentagram. Guess what it does? That's right, it drops the etc item I needed. On the pentagram. Where it promptly transformed before I could loot it. This was 2 days or so ago.
Tldr:
Lucky placement of monster drop = I never looted first quest item but still completed the quest :D
