to use a chaos scroll on a item does it need to have a base weapon attack?

for example can u use a chaos scroll on a zhelm and get watk?
or does it need to have a base attack like pac or fs?

No for your first two questions. For your third question, it does not have to have a base attack. For example, take a brown work glove that's scrolled with one 30% glove attack. You can use a chaos scroll on it to gain attack. However, let's say you have a facestompers, and the chaos scroll takes away your only two attack. You cannot regain it with another chaos scroll.

You need a pre-existing stat for it to be increased/decreased by the chaos scroll.

Chaos scrolls can effect all stats on an item. Weapon attack is most mentioned as its the most useful (Afterall, we dont have glove wep atk scrolls that add +5 atk and we dont have cape for atk scrolls at all).

That being said, yes it can increase the luk on a z-helm, though it'd be a big risk and can take away/break it instead and whatnot, not to mention that they're too expensive to mass scroll right now for the average mapler.

heh Chaos scrolling a ZH..now why didn't i think of that X_X I used a chaos scroll on a 4 atk pac, now I have a 8 atk 4 slot pac and i'm happy...xD still trying to sell it after 4 days X_x

It's mostly explained above in the thread, but...

As you said, 60% chance of working, 40% chance of breaking.

If it works, it can add or subtract 1-5 stats from any stat ALREADY on an item. So, for example, on a clean weapon, it can only add or subtract attack. But if you use a 30% on it first, it can add or subtract both attack and the secondary / tertiary stat as well.

Actually, chaos scrolling a zhelm would be a waste of the scroll. Using it on weapons would be wasteful too because 10/30% scrolls already add 5 watk. It's best use would probably be on a fs or pink cape.

If it adds 5 str/dex/int/luk/wdef/mdef to a zhelm, that could've been an extra 5 watk on a fs or pink cape--far better benefit.

Okaaaay let me just sum up about as much about the Chaos scrolls as I can...

When you use a Chaos scroll it has a 60% chance of working... If it fails it blows up.
When it works it could add +1, +3, or +5 to all stats... Or even -1, -3, or -5 to all of them.
If you have a ZHelm with...
15 str
15 dex
15 int
15 luk
150 def
150 mag def
20 acc
20 avoid
And you use a scroll it would turn into
20 str
20 dex
20 luk
20 int
155 def
155 mag def
25 acc
25 avoid

Now for the a cape / fs it would add the the def and mag def AND the att.

I once did an analysis on Chaos scrolls. IDK if the %s are right or if its accurate, because it's only a hypothesis. However, I noticed that the stats it added or took away totaled in scroll patterns.
Like for glove atk:
+1 stat (100%)
+2 stat (60%)
+3 stat (10%)
And for Weapons:
+1 stat (100%)
+2 stat +1 stat (60%)
+5 stat + 3stat +1 stat (10%)


2% +1 stat (following 100% scroll pattern)
2% +2 primary stat -1 secondary stat
2% +3 primary stat -2 secondary stat
2% +4 primary stat -3 secondary stat
