View Full Version : I got my 1st place prize from nexon... kind of

Well, almost 3 weeks after winning the May Web Event for the Dell XPS computer, I finally got it today. However, there are some "problems".
1. I cant find the monitor
2. I cant find the Maple story t-shirt that it was supposed to come with
3. I had to pay $53.29 for custom fees (not nexon's fault but..., yeah
The package was 60 pounds and the box was so big I almost had trouble getting my hands around it to bring upstairs.
That being said, there are two scenarios to consider here:
1. The monitor and t-shirt have been mailed but have not arrived yet.
2. The prize didnt come with a monitor (and the t-shirt is missing I guess?)
No. 1 would make sense as the package is already 60 pounds... think how heavy it would be if a monitor was there too. The fact that the t-shirt (which was definitely part of the prize) isnt here too makes me think that they're not done shipping (though it might be me being optimistic).
No. 2 is possible as well I guess but then my question is, "WHERE IS MY T-SHIRT" D: (I promised friends I'd wear the t-shirt if I won and they'd never let me forget that, haha).
With all that in mind, Im wondering what you guys think and more importantly, should I go buy myself a monitor tomorrow morning or should I wait to see if a monitor arrives? Im planning on emailing Nexon about it tomorrow (what email would I send it to?) but they're sometimes sketchy when it comes to returning emails so what happens if they dont reply? How long do I wait before getting a new monitor (My other available monitor is 8 years old... Ive had it since I was in grade 6)?
Thanks for the "advice" that I'll get here and I promise, if/when I get the t-shirt, I'll post a picture up here with me in it (probably the only time I'll wear it, lol).
Blog visitors, too bad for you guys. You'll have to wait longer to see a picture of me xD (lolCindy).

It's probably delayed like everything thing else they do lol.

o.o what was in the box???
I would write to customer service asking them for a tracking number for your prize, try googling nexon america email, you should be able to come up with something, I wrote them a while back about job application questions and they wrote back eventually.

Congratz on winning! ^^
Monitor isn't included in the prize. =P
It's just a dell computer without a monitor.

I remember training with you and Jason (for like 10 minutes xD) at skeles... gratz on 4th job xD
The box had the tower (which is really heavy), a keyboard, a mouse, and a lot of cushioning. The box could've been smaller but... yeah >_> I guess they wanted to make sure nothing breaks

Being Nexon, I'm going to have to agree with the above poster and say that is your complete package. Most of the time Desktops include the monitor inside of with the keyboard, mouse, and tower. I suggest emailing Nexon just in case, Because your shirt is also missing. I first suggest posting on the Nexon forums, most likely hime will reply as to where you can email your problem.

Should've looked at the packaging more carefully. No monitor was included, which means I have to go buy one tomorrow >_> Still doesnt solve the question of the t-shirt though. I guess I'll give the forums/nexon an email tomorrow.
Btw, for those wondering about the specs...
Windows XP Professional (5.1... whatever that means. All I care about is no vista!)
Intel Core 2 Duo 3 Ghz Processor
3326MB RAM
500 GB hard drive (least I would think its 500... I have 461 and there's some stuff that goes into formating and stuff)
NVidia Geforce 8800T 512 MB video card
Im not much of a computer person so Im not sure how good/bad it is but... yeah.

Wow it came with Windows XP. I don't know much about computers but you gotta trust that the computer is nice enough to run MS and be able to boss lag-free (or with minimal lag depending on your internet). Isn't that the main purpose of a computer anyways? Play MS and boss without lag.

It came with windows XP but it has a vista disk should I choose to upgrade to Vista (err... no thanks xD). Hopefully you're right about playing MS without lag. Server's down right now so I cant check but I will when it comes up (and go sleep afterwards).

Now overclock the CPU to 4ghz and crank up the fan speed on your 8800GT so you can overclock it :)

It should play anything you have right now maxed out (Assuming you don't have Crysis or Age of Conan)
nVIDIA ftw!
Wow... Nexon isn't bad when it comes to picking a prize.

Was the computer packaged and mailed by Nexon or packaged and mailed by Dell? I would presume Nexon ordered a computer from Dell shipped to you. And if that was the case it makes perfect sence that the T-shirt would be in a seperate package.

Hmmm, you're right. The package says "XPS" all over it and the shipping details seems to indicate it being shipped by Dell. I suppose the t-shirt is just a bit late, lols.

The monitor would probably come in a separate box... I think it's just still being mailed.
Mail them so they send you another one and maybe you get two monitors! xD

lol - well Dell makes money of their timely shipping, so expect the T-Shirt maybe next month. :excellent:
If it was packaged and shipped by Dell then it will have a packing slip. If you are getting a monitor then the packing slip will indicate "the following items are being shipped seperatly..." or something to that nature. And you'll probably get to pay more custom fees. :f3: Though computer is usually used to refer to the box containing the mother board, hard drive, etc. Computer with monitor would imply the whole package.
I did not read the rules to the contest as I didn't think I'd win, but it is also likely that burried in the rules Nexon specified exactly what computer ment and what it would include for the prize.

I remember reading the prize was basically a Dell XPS computer and that's all it said (Oh, and Retail price of $1500).
For anyone else reading this, any suggestions on what size/quality monitor I should buy? >_>

I recommend my monitor. 20 inch LG Flatron, model number W2052TQ, it's pretty much the best monitor you can get right now, according to Future Shop. 1680x1050 maximum resolution. ^^

First of all, Grats on winning the contest!!
I sometimes think that the most random, never-play, people win making it a waste.
But you did! Yay!
About the monitor and t-shirt: Prolly just delayed ;P But I don't see why they would send you a computer with out a monitor o.o I'm not big on computers, and all I have is a laptop so like... yeah >.o Hope you get it soon <3

Eww custom fees. Kinda put a damper on winning.
I think nexon probably told dell to directly ship it to your house, therefore the t-shirt would not be included and would be shipped seperatly from nexon, as they are in possesion of the T-shirt itself not dell.

That's what Im thinking too. However, some winners on Sw have been saying that they've gotten their t-shirt 2-3 weeks ago, which makes me wonder, where's mine? D:

Im not actually complaining about not getting the t-shirt, just merely wondering if I was getting one (as I remember it being included in the prize). Its not really me wanting the t-shirt for the most part but my friends wanting to see me in the t-shirt, lols. They've been asking for a while and I just kinda want to go "here it is. Its over with, stop asking"

Hope you get your shirt soon, and congrats on the computer. Too bad you got slapped with a fee, but the alternative was buying the 1500$ retail price computer. Seems like a win to me.

Well, you can't blame Jackk for wanting the Tshirt. In a way, its the trophy/certificate of his excellent work. (You can't really show off a computer can you?)
And gratz Jackk. I really liked your vid. I'm personally curious as to what the Tshirt looks like. I'd be pretty cool if they put your char's appearance on it to make it personalized.

500 * 1000 = MB * 1000 = KB * 1000 = bytes.
500000000000 of them.
By traditional storage means:
500000000000 / 1024 / 1024 / 1024 = 465.66 GB.
That whole "formatting" thing is a myth, they just use 1000 instead of 1024 to prorate hard drives.
I don't think Dell would have any qualms with sending you a monitor with your PC, weight or not. I'd chalk that up to a lost cause, unless they were getting you a monitor from some other point of distribution, I guess.
If there's a problem with using your current monitor, such as your graphics card only supports DVI and you have a monitor with a VGA plug, you can get what is referred to as a dongle. It should cost like, 5 bucks or something.
Looks like this: http://www.jaton.com.au/IMAGEs/LBOX_VA-JDONGLE.PNG
They usually come with graphics cards, but since you got a whole machine, I doubt it came with any.
http://www.amazon.com/Connect3D-6013-Dvi-Converter-Dongle/dp/B000815HSG
Looks like they range from $1-$10 or so. Still better than a new monitor. Also, I highly recommend dual monitor. It kicks ass. Plain and simple.

Actually, it did come with it. At first I was a bit fustrated cause I thought I couldnt plug my old monitor in but then rummaging through the box I found it there and was somewhat relieved, lols.
