When you job advance, you have to use a sp on a magic attack, so most put one in bolt, and start putting into mp increase
well from what i know, bolt will only hit around 20.
This is where my quick fact comes in.
When you make the job advancement, start putting into mp increase right away.
In the mean time, use 3 snails. It hits 40, and you can get ammo easy for it simply by looting the ground floor of HHG Channel 1 (Henesys Hunting Ground)

I disagree, it's probably better to add that 1 point into energy bolt. Looting only red snail shells does take a while, especially if you wanna level 5 times from it o_o.

The best SP build for a Magician is as fallows. Nothing can surpass it in effectiveness. (Although Claw First means faster leveling, it destroys you at high levels)

Level 09: Bolt(1), Improving MP Recovery(3)
Level 10: Bolt(1), Improving MP Recovery(5), Improving Max Mp Increase(1)
Level 11: Bolt(1), Improving MP Recovery(5), Improving Max Mp Increase(4)
Level 12: Bolt(1), Improving MP Recovery(5), Improving Max Mp Increase(7)
Level 13: Bolt(1), Improving MP Recovery(5), Improving Max Mp Increase(10), Claw(2)
Level 14: Bolt(1), Improving MP Recovery(5), Improving Max Mp Increase(10), Claw(5)
Level 15: Bolt(1), Improving MP Recovery(5), Improving Max Mp Increase(10), Claw(8)
Level 16: Bolt(1), Improving MP Recovery(5), Improving Max Mp Increase(10), Claw(11)
Level 17: Bolt(1), Improving MP Recovery(5), Improving Max Mp Increase(10), Claw(14)
Level 18: Bolt(1), Improving MP Recovery(5), Improving Max Mp Increase(10), Claw(17)
Level 19: Bolt(1), Improving MP Recovery(5), Improving Max Mp Increase(10), Claw(20)
Level 20: Bolt(1), Improving MP Recovery(5), Improving Max Mp Increase(10), Claw(20), Magic Guard(3)
Level 21: Bolt(1), Improving MP Recovery(5), Improving Max Mp Increase(10), Claw(20), Magic Guard(6)
Level 22: Bolt(1), Improving MP Recovery(5), Improving Max Mp Increase(10), Claw(20), Magic Guard(9)
Level 23: Bolt(1), Improving MP Recovery(5), Improving Max Mp Increase(10), Claw(20), Magic Guard(12)

Level 25: Bolt(1), Improving MP Recovery(5), Improving Max Mp Increase(10), Claw(20), Magic Guard(18)
Level 26: Bolt(1), Improving MP Recovery(5), Improving Max Mp Increase(10), Claw(20), Magic Guard(20)
Level 27: Bolt(1), Improving MP Recovery(8), Improving Max Mp Increase(10), Claw(20), Magic Guard(20)
Level 28: Bolt(1), Improving MP Recovery(11), Improving Max Mp Increase(10), Claw(20), Magic Guard(20)
Level 29: Bolt(1), Improving MP Recovery(14), Improving Max Mp Increase(10), Claw(20), Magic Guard(20)
Level 30: Bolt(1), Improving MP Recovery(16), Improving Max Mp Increase(10), Claw(20), Magic Guard(20), whatever(1)
I probably made an error though.

I tried that on my mage on fMS. It's really more trouble then it's worth.
Getting the shells needed for 3snails as a mage is a pain in the ass.

Bolt out damages it easily at level 1, it's far more MP effective too.

"Level 10: Bolt(1), Improving MP Recovery(5), Improving Max Mp Increase(2)"
I already see your error.
There should be no points left (as in, one extra (1) point hanging) after you hit level 30.
Personally, I'm going to get bolt at level 13.
My plan:
Before job advancement, have 99% ish at level 8.
Advance.
Level to level 9.
Use the quest from Grendel to go to leafre and hit level 10.
When nexon removes that glitch in leafre, teleport back to victoria island at level 10 and HPQ till 13 - 18.
Done and Done.

Oh, I see my bug. There's faulty Mental Math for ya. xP
I think 1 sp in Bolt is the way to go. ^^ snail shells are just tooo annoying to pick up for like 3 hours. ):

The MP Recovery first path is called the "Hell Build" and with good reason. It's very difficult to level without Energy Bolt early on. I did it on my Bishop way back in the day, and only because I had a friend that I leeched until I got Energy Bolt. The extra 10 MP or so isn't worth the trouble.

I'd definitely max out MP recovery before Magic Guard (and even before Claw, if you're on a new server), you probably won't use Magic Guard at all until level 7x+ anyway, and the extra MP recovery reduces money spent on pots, letting you train more consistently (weaker if you get it before claw, but you don't have to sit around waiting for MP regen).

Easiest Solution: Exchange quests.
But to go back on the topic of the "best early build", my question is this: How much more mp will you have if you went with 1 more level of mp increase per level up from 11-13?.
That one point in Energy bolt = 1 point less in MP increase, meaning that...
At Level 10, you have 1 MP increase instead of 2, at level 11, you have 4 instead of 5 and so on till you max it at 13.
That being said, I always found red snails both hard to kill and not very common at HHG1 (in comparisson to blue snails and various other spawns). The way I would do it is put that skill at 1, spend all of 1-8 on the first map with only green snails, then use all those up killing blue snails, level that skill to 2, use the blue snail shells killing till you run out, etc.
Though it "does less damage", those snail shells are more readily available and require no "running around looting", perhaps saving time. Im not sure and should probably test it out some time, but as I said, Im always too impatient and just level with exchange quests, lol.

the only way to effectively use this build is if you do the grendel quest to get to orbis, and then zombie teeth your way up til you have a decent level of magic claw, but for this to work you'd have to either have money to BUY teeth, or have another char to GET teeth.
Wow Jackk got it before me ;~;

Yeah, Im not even sure why Im posting here considering Im an archer D:
On another topic: There's a grendel quest that takes you to Orbis? D: I usually spend more time on the boat than I actually do exchanging from 10-20 D:

yea but now it's glitched because it gives you seeds to leave leafre, but it doesn't let you into the maps to use the seeds, so you need to take the boat back and for most noobs that's alot of money.

I actually thought not letting noobs leave certain maps was on purpose, so people cant create noobs, bring them to say newties and then vac things into people or whatnot... (then again, reading your post about people vaccing your newties...I guess it means vaccers have to put more effort in order to get a char to the area where they can vac? >_>)

While it may be on purpose these low level characters get stuck without anyway to leave in leafre. They can't buy a ticket for the boat and they can't leave leafre. :f7:
